apartmentLampton School placeHounslow calendar_month
Lampton School is a large, mixed, multi-ethnic 11-18 school. We were judged as "Outstanding" in all categories by Ofsted in 2005, 2008, 2013 and 2024. We are the lead school for the London West Alliance, and we are a teacher training partner with the University of Roehampton.

As a member of the Hounslow Education Partnership we can offer staff excellent opportunities for professional learning and career progression.

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, ambitious and enthusiastic Teacher of Art & Design.

Art & Design is a popular subject at our school, with five Key Stage 4 classes across Art and Design. We have three adjacent purpose-built art rooms, two design workshops, as well as a textiles and cookery room. You will be joining an ambitious and committed team.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong subject knowledge, including a secure understanding of contemporary art and design, and be passionate about the importance of Art & Design in the curriculum. You will be expected to teach Art & Design at Key Stages 3 and 4, with an opportunity to develop the subject at Key Stage 5.

The successful candidate will be joining a well-established and successful team and will be expected to participate fully in the leadership of the department and contribute to wider school systems leadership.

About the role

As a Teacher of Art & Design, you will deliver high-quality teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4, inspiring students to develop creativity, confidence and independence in their artistic practice. You will promote critical thinking, visual literacy and creative exploration, equipping students with the skills to analyse, interpret and respond to the visual world around them.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to working collaboratively within a supportive and ambitious team. You will demonstrate strong subject knowledge and an understanding of contemporary art and design practice, helping to build students’ cultural capital through exposure to a diverse range of artists, ideas and perspectives.

You will contribute to the delivery and development of engaging and inclusive schemes of work across the disciplines of Art, Product Design, Textiles and Food, recognising their distinct characteristics within a unified faculty, while supporting a broad and ambitious curriculum offer.

You will also support departmental priorities relating to curriculum development, assessment and the continuous improvement of teaching and learning.

A key aspect of the role will be monitoring and supporting student progress to ensure all students are challenged and supported to achieve their potential. Experience of teaching AQA Fine Art and/or AQA 3D Design, as well as KS4 cookery (NCFE), is desirable along with a secure understanding of assessment objectives and examination requirements.

You will champion high standards and foster curiosity, resilience and a lifelong appreciation for Art & Design.

About the Department

The Art & Design department is a dynamic, collaborative and forward-thinking team with a strong track record of success at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Art has achieved the highest results in the borough and non-core SPI outcomes for the past five years at both GCSE and A Level, with 3D Design achieving the highest results in the borough last year.

The department benefits from excellent facilities and a shared commitment to delivering engaging, challenging and inclusive lessons that nurture creativity and independence. The team includes subject specialists across Art, Product Design, Food and Textiles, who collaborate effectively, share resources and contribute their expertise to a rich and varied curriculum.

Students are encouraged to explore a wide range of artistic disciplines and are introduced to both historical and contemporary artists, with a strong focus on diversity, representation and cultural understanding. The department actively promotes critical dialogue around themes such as identity, culture and society, enabling students to develop informed and personal responses in their work.

There is a strong emphasis on enrichment, including exhibitions, trips and opportunities to engage with practising artists and creative professionals. The department plays a central role in the cultural life of the school and is committed to continuous improvement and innovation.
