Sexual Health Dorset @ Bournemouth are recruiting to join our friendly team.

The role includes working across an integrated service in contraception and sexual health across Bournemouth & Poole. We offer a wide range of clinics and sexual health support such as Genito-Urinary Medicine/STI screening, HIV & PreP clinics, LGBTQ+ support clinics, contraceptive clinics, Dorset Working Women’s Project, Early Medical Termination Service and Target Outreach Support for young people and schools.

The service is open Monday - Friday between 8am & 8pm and the post holder will be required to work various shifts between these times, with some degree of flexibility. Previous HCA experience within the NHS is essential along with a competency in venepuncture .

Main duties of the job

The main duties will include chaperoning nurses and doctors performing STI screening, undertaking microscopy to diagnose certain infections, chaperoning coil fits & taking patients’ blood as part of STI screening and HIV care along with other duties required by service.

To participate in the provision of an integrated sexual health service across Dorset, assisting clinicians in managing patients attending for contraception and investigations and treatment for sexually transmitted infections. Also preparing and maintain the clinical environment

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Person specification

Knowledge, Skills and Training

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Care or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Sexual Transmitted Infection Foundation Level 1 training and e-learning

Job Specific Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of employment healthcare related experience
  • Ability to accurately record information
Desirable criteria
  • Working in sexual health clinics
  • Accredited clinical training in venepuncture
  • BASHH Microscopy course

Personal Qualities/ Attributes
