An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Older Adult Mental Health, Home Treatment Team (OA MH HTT) for a Health Care Support Worker. OA MH HTT is a hospital at home team who support older adult in their on homes where ever this may be.

The Health Care Support worker will work alongside the Registered Nurse and other HCAs offering support and implementing care under the direction of the RNs. This post require under the direction of the Registered Nurses and wider MDT. OA MH HTT is a 365 day working service. Full driving License is required for this post as the OA MH HTT is community based covering the whole of the County.

As an HCA you will be supporting our service users with recovery focused psychological interventions. This may include supporting the person with activity, daily planning, getting out and about, encourage self care, monitoring physical health, talking and spending quality time with the person.

Our HCAs are an important part of the HTT.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of a registered nurse participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of high quality care within the home environment, through involvement in the implementation of patient care.

Promote equality for all services users. Participate in recreational and physical activities with our service users promoting mental health recovery. Undertaking physical observations such a recording blood pressure, carrying out ECGs, and routine bloods (though training will be offered if these skill are not present).

Ensuring accurate records are kept. Demonstrate awareness of the service users and care perspective on the provision of treatment and continuing care. Being able to work on your own initiative as necessary and report to the Nurses.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Cavendish Care Certificate or willingness to work towards resourced by LPFT.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Care or equivalent
  • NVQ level 3 in Promoting Independence or equivalent or working towards achievement.
  • Training in mental health awareness or other training relevant to this post
Desirable criteria
  • Training in mental health awareness or any other training relevant to this post
  • NVQ 2 in Dementia Care or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous relevant experience working with people with mental health problems at a nursing assistant grade or equivalent within a health and social care setting
  • Knowledge of risk assessment principles
  • Experience in providing support for people in the community
  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in providing support for people in the community
  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Effective communication with service user, other members of the team and outside agencies
  • A patient and empathic approach. Clear and accurate clinical note keeping
  • Quick decision making skills- calm approach and have the ability to liaise and consult with others colleagues if required
  • Plan and organise their day and ensure that their whereabouts are known
