Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Job overview
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic patient-orientated clinical scientist / Lower Gastro intestinal physiologist at a Band 7 with scope to train newly qualified scientists or nurses to join the well-established, accredited leading Pelvic Floor Unit at St Thomas’s Hospital.The purpose of this post is to deliver a high-quality clinical scientist-led Pelvic floor service in Adults.
This will primarily include performing Pelvic floor diagnostic tests including ano rectal manometry, endo anal and Pelvic floor scans and defecating proctogram. You will also be required to undertake Telephone triage assessment clinics of which guidance and training will be given.
You will also be involved in co ordinating and participating in the multi-disciplinary meetings. Other duties will include ordering of equipment and supplies for the department.
The Pelvic floor unit provides care for patients with faecal incontinence and constipation/evacuatory disorders.
As part of an integrated service we work closely with the urology and uro gynaecology team and there will be opportunity to be involved in integrated pathways.

- Organisation of ano-rectal physiology & Pelvic floor and ultrasound clinics together with the Senior Clinical scientist
- Maintenance and calibration of all hardware / software used in clinical function testing.
- Maintain and update evidence-based guidelines in the department for all function tests together with Senior Clinical Scientist
- Carry out and update Risk assessments & health and safety policies related to ano-rectal physiology and ultrasound together with the Senior Clinical Scientist.
- To be involved in the organisation of induction for all new recruits to the department, including orientation and training. Involved in training visitors and research fellows.
- Assist the Senior Clinical Scientist and Colorectal Consultants with research carried out in the unit, liaising with the Trusts Research and Development group and the Ethics committee as is necessary.
- Aid in auditing the department’s clinical outcomes.
- Involved and undertake research within the unit
