  • Location: Secondary Schools in Bristol and surrounding areas
  • Working Hours: Rota basis dependent on school needs. Emergency call-outs may be required.
  • Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Reed is actively seeking a dedicated School Caretaker to join various secondary schools across Bristol. The ideal candidate will be available full-time and possess the flexibility to adapt to the diverse requirements of different schools.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Deputy Director of Finance and Resources - IT and Facilities Lead, provide caretaking, building repair, maintenance, and cleaning services as required.
  • Monitor skilled contractors and liaise with designated officers to carry out emergency procedures, including repairs.
  • Assist in internal decorations and improvements while ensuring compliance with Health and Safety standards.
  • Liaise with contractors on-site to ensure work is completed to specifications and standards.
  • Report building alterations and repairs to the Site Supervisor.
  • Support the Site Supervisor in managing all security activities within the site.
  • Routinely monitor the operation of fire alarms, fire doors, lighting, heating, water testing, plumbing, and security systems.
  • Detect and report any building defects, advising school management on Health and Safety issues. Undertake minor repairs and general maintenance.
  • Arrange and/or carry out the movement of furniture and equipment within the site. Assist with general porterage duties, including the distribution of delivered items.
  • Maintain tidy school grounds and ensure equipment is kept in good order, including cleaning external drains and gullies.
  • Store all allocated equipment and materials safely to prevent accidents/misuse. Issue necessary supplies such as soap, toilet rolls, and paper towels.
  • Be aware of and work in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and safe practice.
  • Become qualified as a First Aider and perform first aid duties as required.
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Undertake other duties as required, commensurate with the level of the post.
  • Comply with all school policies, statutory requirements, and legislation, including Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety at Work, and Data Protection Acts.
  • Commit to Child Safeguarding, promoting the welfare of children and young people in accordance with the school’s procedures, and meeting the outcomes of Every Child Matters.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • No formal qualifications required.
  • Experience and knowledge of buildings and associated trades desired.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain approved certificates for the use of specialist machinery. Training provided if necessary.
  • Manual Handling, COSHH certificates, and, if required, a PAT qualification. Training can be provided.
