Job Title: DIETETIC SUPPORT WORKER – COMMUNITY AND RESEARCH FOCUS
  1. 8 WTE (30.0 hours per week) Band 3
Job type: Fixed Term for 9 months

Department: Nutrition and Dietetics, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children

If you have a passion and interest in good nutrition, an enthusiastic attitude to work and a desire to help children and families, this may be the job for you. You will work under the supervision of community dietitians, supporting patients and their families to implement dietary plans and and additionally support research projects within the department.

This will involve attending clinics in paediatric community hubs and the hospital, speaking to families over the phone, via email and face-to-face, and supporting patient education sessions. You will carry out both clinical tasks ie. weighing and measuring, and administrative tasks.

Main duties of the job

Experience of working with people is essential, with knowledge and/or an appreciation of different cultures, religions, ethnic groups and disabilities. Experience in healthcare and working with children is desirable. You must be able to drive, and have your own vehicle to travel with Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.

Good communication skills, written and spoken English, basic Maths and good IT literacy are essential.

As the post involves some lone working, you must be self-motivated and show initiative, whilst recognising limitations. Good attention to detail is essential.

The post involves working with a diverse range of professionals including Paediatricians, Specialist Nurses, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. The Nutrition and Dietetics Department consists of Paediatric Dietitians, Dietetic Support Workers, Special Feed Unit and Administration staff.
