We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual with a passion for ensuring quality driven care for children and young people. The successful candidate will show a commitment to patient safety, quality improvement and a compassionate approach to leadership.
You will be expected to use your expert clinical knowledge, alongside your management and leadership skills, to enhance the experience of children, young people and families, and seek opportunities to engage with colleagues to embed a positive practice environment.

Main duties of the job
The Centre offers a unique environment for nursing professionals to develop their paediatric experience across a range of areas: Inpatients, Paediatric Assessment Unit, 4 bedded Paediatric Critical Care Level 2 (HDU), Day Unit, Oncology shared care services and Outpatients
You will be responsible for the daily clinical, operational and quality management of all the paediatric clinical areas and professional development of staff within that area. You will provide support to all staff and will work in partnership with all multi-disciplinary teams.
You will be responsible for providing leadership and professional development for nursing and support workers within the service. You will work with the other paediatric senior nurses to develop best practice and ensure that there is consistency across the paediatric unit.In collaboration with senior nursing team and Matrons, you will provide senior nursing leadership for the unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To manage the clinical area ensuring the protocols, policies and procedures are adhered to. Provide a service to the agreed standard, meeting organisational and national targets. Participation in Audit and Research, developing research based practices.
Dedicated lead for the 4 bedded oncology unit and have the overview of that service including overview of training and development of the team.- To assess and define patient needs, develop and implement family centred patient care packages providing direct clinical care which is evidence based.
- To communicate effectively, throughout the multidisciplinary team and outside agencies, especially where patients’ ability to do so is compromised. Act as patient advocate.
- Ability to disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately.
- To administer medication and treatment within Procedure for ordering, Prescribing and Administration of Medication Guidelines.
- To deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, ensuring staff skill mix remains at an appropriate and safe level.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse (Child)
- Evidence of Leadership/Management development
- Evidence of Post-registration qualification, preferably relevant to any of the following paediatric oncology, paediatric critical care level 1 & 2, APLS, PACR
- BSc (Hons) in nursing related subject
- Working towards Masters Level
Experience
Essential criteria- Experienced Paeds nurse with acute clinical skills
- Post registration-teaching experience
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development, including clinical competencies
- Experience in Mental Health with children
- Audit Experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Awareness of clinical skills across specialist areas.
- Act as a role model and lead by example to ensure the Trust’s values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
- Escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety.
- Up to date with professional issues that influence Paediatric care, relating to practice, management, education and research
- Understand and be committed to good record keeping using the Trusts electronic and paper methods
- Evidence showcasing contributions to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies/protocols/guidelines relevant to paediatrics
