Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is the lead provider for perinatal services for the Yorkshire and Humber provider collaborative which goes live in April 2025. In autumn 2025 there will be a further bed expansion to the existing and only mother and baby unit in Yorkshire and Humber, which will allow for inpatient care to be provided for mothers and their infants closer to their home.

As part of this exciting expansion of our Mother and Baby Unit at The Mount in Leeds, we are looking for compassionate, dedicated, and skilled professionals to join our dynamic team. As we grow, we aim to continue providing the highest standard of care to mothers and their infants in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder requires skills in providing good quality clinical, management and caseload supervision. You will need to support staff with their day-to-day work, supporting their development, clinical practice, and performance. You will need to manage the team using human resources procedures, service operating procedures and governance structures.

You will need highly developed interpersonal, engagement and problem-solving skills.

You will need to work flexibly and continuously network and engage with community clinical services and partner organisations; with the overall aim of improving service user experience and outcomes.

Applicants will need to demonstrate sound values, including compassion around meeting the needs of service-users and their carers, recognising the importance of co-production and choice in the planning and delivery of care. You will promote social inclusion, community access and participation through ensuring quality around care provision.

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialised services across the country.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As the Clinical Team Manager, you will provide leadership and management to a multi-disciplinary team. You will also play a key role in the service development and expansion, liaising with other key agencies within the perinatal pathway. With a relevant Mental Health Nurse qualification and clinical experience, you should have experience of line management within an MDT, alongside an interest in, and understanding of, Perinatal Mental Health services and the key national and local drivers.

With an understanding of clinical governance and risk management, you should also be able to demonstrate how you work in partnership to deliver a quality service.

As a service we are committed to providing regular and good quality supervision to our staff. We offer a comprehensive induction package, and staff have the opportunity to undertake specialist perinatal mental health training both internally and externally.

An interest in women’s mental health and the particular needs of the infant where the primary care giver is suffering from a significant illness is essential.
  • Organise, integrate, and lead a multi-professional team in providing a high quality service to service users of Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues within the Trust and other relevant services and key stakeholders, in order to maintain a safe and effective service.
  • Act as a champion for the service, demonstrating a participative and supportive management style with a commitment to team working.
  • Provide supervision and support to the staff members of the team
  • Attend and contribute to Operational and Governance meetings, working in partnership with their Line Manager.
  • Ensure all staff adhere to Professional, Trust and service specific policies and procedures, including the reporting of incidents and accidents, complaints and the management of confidential information.
  • Deal with formal and informal oral and written complaints in a timely and effective manner, communicating outcomes to relevant parties as delegated by Operational Manager and in accordance with Trust policy.
  • To deal with the investigation of critical/serious untoward incidents, as delegated by the Operational Manager and in accordance with Trust policy
  • Ensure that local, directorate and national targets, key performance indicators and quality standards are met, monitored and reported on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that services are reviewed, monitored and continuously improved within the framework of Clinical Governance.
  • Manage and lead the clinical functioning of the team, participating in an on-call system if required.
  • Lead on staffing and skill mix reviews within the team in conjunction with the relevant professional leads / managers and team colleagues.
  • Take a lead role in the process of recruiting and selecting new team members, working jointly with the relevant professional lead / manager

Fixed Term Contracts for existing NHS Employees – temporary contracts for employees of LYPFT, or colleagues joining from another NHS Trust, will be offered on a secondment basis wherever possible. In the event this is not possible, an FTC would be issued and this would require a break in service of two weeks.

The purpose of a temporary is role could be for maternity cover, temporary funding or some other reason. At the end of which the need for the temporary work will cease. Temporary roles can stop, be extended and/or made permanent at any point during the period of work.

Should the role become permanent then the post-holder will be informed of the process to be followed to convert the position to a permanent one.
