Introduction
The Chamber and Participation Team (CPT) brings together all the disciplines that support the House of Commons Chamber within one coherent structure - the procedural offices that facilitate the core function of legislating, the operational teams who focus on ensuring that the Chamber runs effectively and efficiently, and the public-facing teams who promote Parliament's role and seek to engage citizens across the UK with parliamentary business.
The Role
The Education Centre Assistant Manager (Technology and Operations) is part of the management team responsible for leading, managing and motivating a team of Education and Engagement Assistants and Officers within the Education Centre at UK Parliament.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Operations: With the support of two other Assistant Managers, to be responsible for the smooth daily operations of the Education Centre.
- Duty Management: To act as duty manager on average for 4 half days per week. Duty Management includes, managing changes to operations, responding to emerging challenges, and stakeholder engagement and being the central point of contact for the wider Education Centre team.
- People Management: To line manage eight members of the Education Centre team. This number may fluctuate due to changes in operations. To support recruitment of new staff as needed.
- Stakeholder Engagement: To work with colleagues across the house including Visitor Experience, Security, Sargant at Arms office, Yeoman Usher and gallery team.
- Contract Management: To manage existing contracts relating to the Education Centre, and where necessary procure new contracts.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Ability to line manage and lead a team to support them to meet high standards of business operation.
- Ability to use a mixture of forward planning and responsive skills to manage problems.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex topics to a range of stakeholders, including staff, colleagues across Education and Engagement and school aged children through delivery of tours and workshops.
