What you'll do:
- Manage a varied caseload of housing litigation matters including anti-social behaviour injunctions, possession claims, and disrepair cases for landlord clients.
- Defend disrepair claims effectively while providing supervision and guidance to legal assistants within the team.
- Undertake advocacy at possession hearings and injunction return dates, ensuring high standards of representation for clients in court settings.
- Advise clients on a wide range of housing management issues as well as policy reviews, helping them navigate complex regulatory environments.
- Handle leasehold and shared ownership disputes with sensitivity and attention to detail, ensuring positive outcomes for clients.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across the team, sharing knowledge and supporting junior staff members in their development.
- Build strong relationships with clients by communicating clearly in plain English and delivering trusted advice tailored to their needs.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes by participating in team meetings and sharing best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with developments in housing law through regular training sessions and self-directed learning opportunities.
What you bring:
- Demonstrated experience in housing or residential leasehold litigation with a proven track record of managing complex cases from inception through resolution.
- Confidence in advocacy and court work, including representing clients at possession hearings and injunction returns.
- A collaborative approach that includes enjoyment of mentoring or delegating tasks to junior colleagues within the team setting.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly using plain English for diverse audiences.
- Strong relationship-building abilities that foster trust with clients from various backgrounds within the social housing sector.
- Attention to detail when handling sensitive disputes such as leasehold or shared ownership matters.
