Job overview
Health and Care Research Wales is a research infrastructure funded by the Division of Research & Development, Welsh Government. The overarching vision of Health and Care Research Wales is to be internationally recognised for its excellent health and social care research that has a positive impact on the health, wellbeing and prosperity of the people in Wales.A Support and Delivery infrastructure was established in 2015 in order to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness and international competiveness in the research environment within Wales. This included a Support Centre to provide centralised functions and services at a National level and local R&D functions via NHS R&D Departments at each organisation.
The Health and Care Research Wales Support and Delivery mission is to facilitate health and social care research that will improve the health and well-being of people in Wales by providing and effective and efficient joined up centralised and local service.
The NHS R&D Department is led by a R&D Director provide local services for research support and facilitates the sponsoring and hosting of studies within in each UHB. Part of this service includes a NHS research delivery team consisting of Research Nurses, Clinical Studies Officers, Research Officers and Administrators, employed by NHS organisations to support the delivery of high quality health and social care studies.The Practice Development Nurse will be a part of these NHS research delivery teams.
Main duties of the job
This post is a Fixed term/Secondment for 2 years to meet the needs of the service.
An exciting position has arisen for a Practice Development Nurse to support the Cardiff and Vale Research Delivery Team. The post holder will be working under the direction of the Research Team Lead and Senior Nurse for Research, to develop and implement training programmes for the clinical development of research staff, obtaining and maintaining essential clinical skills required for the delivery of clinical trials.
The successful applicant will be supporting a diverse team, covering research across the UHB including in the University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough, across specialisms such as surgery, medicine, infectious diseases, early phase research, obstetrics and gynaecology, mental health research, vaccines etc.
The post holder will be encouraged to link in with the wider UHB Education and Training networks and Practice Development Forums, to ensure that up to date information and training is distributed across the team.
An essential requirement of the role includes the post holder being proficient in clinical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation, medicines management (including IV therapies), urinalysis, and pregnancy test training. Therefore, the role will be suited to someone who is clinically experienced with a passion for sharing skills and knowledge with other team members, and takes a keen interest in the development of staff.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Registered Nurse/NMC registration
- Pertinent postgraduate qualification and willingness to undertake relevant postgraduate study when in post
- Willingness to study at masters level
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of working within a research delivery team
- Experience of supervision of junior staff
- Working knowledge of research and audit, and good clinical practice
- Experience of mentoring pre-registration nursing/midwifery/ODP students
Skills
Essential criteria- Clinical skills - including venepuncture, cannulation, medicines management, IV therapies etc
- Teaching skills
- Ability to organise and prioritise own time, meeting deadlines
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records and supervise the documentation of others
- IT skills - excel, powerpoint etc
- Clinical Skills Assessor Trained
