Highway and Transport Services – Enhancing Lives, Building Communities

Are you ready to help shape the future of local roads and transport? We're looking for Highway Development Control Engineers to plan and deliver transport infrastructure that supports sustainable development and aligns with our Local Transport Policy.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to grow professionally, enhancing your project management, negotiation and public communication skills while working in a dynamic environment.

As a Development Control Engineer, you’ll assess how new developments impact roads, public transport, cycling and walking, providing highway consultation responses on planning applications and ensuring that our community’s needs are met. You’ll collaborate with planning officers, legal teams and developers to find balanced solutions, overseeing drafting and implementation of Section 38 and Section 278 Agreements to ensure that transport infrastructure is built to high standards and maintained properly.

You’ll bring experience in highway or traffic engineering, transport assessments or town planning, along with a relevant degree or experience. Strong communication and good negotiation skills are essential, as you’ll engage with local representatives and the public to address transport issues.

For the level 3 post, you will need a membership in a professional body such as ICE, IHT, IHE or CILT.

This is a fantastic chance to grow your career, develop your skills and make a real difference in your community. If you’re ready to help build a sustainable future, apply today!

Career Progression

This is a career-graded role, meaning you’ll be appointed at a level that matches your experience and skills, with the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within the role.
