An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic and self-motivated professional to join our aseptic team within Aseptic services at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.
The aseptic unit at University Hospital of North Tees prepares and dispense injectable chemotherapy and Parenteral Nutrition for patients treated at both University Hospital of North Tees and University Hospital of Hartlepool.
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of high quality, efficient, effective comprehensive aseptic services within the Trust, based in the aseptic unit within the pharmacy department.
Main duties of the job
You will be working as part of the aseptic team to provide an effective, patient focussed aseptic service. This will include the preparation, in-process, pre-manufacture and post manufacture checks of chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition products, including the supervision of personnel within a cleanroom facility under the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
To be eligible for consideration for a Science Manufacturing Technician Level 3 Apprentice interview, you you are required to have a Level 2 BTEC/NVQ in Pharmacy Services or Functional skills Level 2. Maths, English and Science) qualification.
The job requires the successful applicant to hold or complete a level 3 Science Manufacturing Technician apprenticeship programme within 2 years. the post holder who successfully complete the 2 year course and associated study will be expected to register as a Science Manufacturing Technician with the Science Council.

Actively participate in the identification and recording of non-conformities and advising senior colleagues of issues in order to minimise disruption to the activities of the unit.
Participates in the aseptic preparation of medicines for seriously ill patients such as those receiving chemotherapy within defined timescale
perform pre, in-process and post manufacture checks of prepared aseptic medicines
Ensure that cleaning in all areas of the production unit is completed according to GMP and departmental policies and procedures. To ensure ingredients and disposables are assembled, disinfected and transferred through the Aseptic Services Unit appropriately
Plan personal and departmental activity workload
Accurately prepare worksheets and labels for aseptic products using the units computer system
Assist in the development of standard operating procedures and documentation for use within the aseptic service
Supervise personnel in operating within GMP compliance
Regularly analyse documented GMP Observations, referring issues to Lead Technician and Authorised Pharmacists where non-compliance or deviation identified
Assist the Principal/Senior Technicians in managing the Aseptic Services stock takes
Prepare environmental samples and checking detailed documentation for dispatch to QC

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria- Science Manufacturing Technician L3 Qualification or Requirement to complete Science Manufacturing Technician L3 Qualification (Must fulfil requirements to enrol on the course

- Maths, English and Science)
- Registration with the Science Council
- GCSE Maths/ English and Science grade C or above or 4/5
Experience
Essential criteria- Relevant experience of working in technical services or an Industry GMP related environment.
- Pharmacy experience in either a hospital or community setting
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Knowledge of a range of pharmaceutical technical procedures acquired through training
- Demonstrates knowledge of current legislations and regulations, e.g. COSHH and Health and Safety at Work Act
- Understanding of stock control systems.
- Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
- Demonstrates practical knowledge of GMP
- Demonstrates practical knowledge of Quality systems.
- Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
- Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
