Pastoral Support Teaching Assistant
We are seeking an enthusiastic committed professional to join us as a PastoralbSupport Teaching Assistant
The successful candidate will:
- Mentoring, supporting and inspiring learners by supporting them with curriculum-based learning in the classroom, on home tuition and outreach and through outdoor activities
- Assist with the preparation of learning material and contributing to the delivery of learning objectives with a strong focus on behavioural management
- Daily reports on learners’ progress and barriers to learning
- Knowledge and experience in implementing trauma-informed practices to support students facing emotional challenges, ensuring they feel safe, understood, and supported.
- An ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external support agencies to create a holistic approach to each student’s development.
- A genuine enthusiasm for working within an SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) environment and a desire to foster positive relationships with students.
- Expertise in providing pastoral care that addresses the emotional, social, and academic needs of students, fostering a culture of respect and inclusion.
- Proven strategies and experience in behaviour management and interventions that positively influence student behaviour and learning outcomes.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- A committed and passionate view of students with SEND
- At least two years’ experience minimum of working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision
- A level 3 TA qualification is advantageous

Broadwood School is a specialist setting set in the idyllic hills of Halifax with provision to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. Through targeted interventions such as Lego Therapy, Drawing and Talking and Speech and Language, we aim to encourage pupils to develop their skills around self-regulation, managing emotions and effective communication.
Broadwood School is on a journey to becoming a Trauma Informed School, where we consider the external factors which can lead to contextually inappropriate behaviours. To ensure the best outcomes for our pupils, we invest in our staff training and development to ensure our staff are trained to support pupils through proactive de-escalation.
