Aspiring Educational Psychologist - Learning Support Assistant - Primary School

Milk Education is offering a fantastic opportunity for aspiring Educational Psychologists to work as Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) in a nurturing primary school setting in Staines. This role is ideal for individuals looking to develop practical experience in child psychology, Special Educational Needs (SEN), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) support before pursuing further studies or training in Educational Psychology.

You will support children aged 5-11, helping them overcome learning barriers, develop confidence, and build essential social and emotional skills. This experience will provide invaluable insights into working with children with additional needs, including autism, ADHD, anxiety, and developmental delays.

You will:
  • Observe and Support Child Development: Work closely with children who have additional learning and emotional needs, gaining first-hand experience in understanding their challenges.
  • Implement Psychological Strategies: Support the use of interventions, such as emotion regulation techniques, social skills training, and behaviour management strategies.
  • Work One-on-One and in Small Groups: Provide tailored support to children with a range of learning and emotional needs.
  • Collaborate with Professionals: Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists such as Speech and Language Therapists and Educational Psychologists.
  • Build trusting relationships with children to help them feel safe, valued, and supported.
  • Assist in identifying learning and emotional difficulties and implementing appropriate interventions.
  • Support children in developing resilience, confidence, and independence in their learning.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all children can thrive.
  • Help track progress and provide feedback to teachers and support teams.
  • Passion for Educational Psychology: A strong interest in child development, SEN, and mental health support.
  • Relevant Background: Graduates in Psychology, Education, or related fields are encouraged to apply (non-graduates with relevant experience are also welcome).
  • Empathy and Patience: A calm, nurturing, and proactive approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Desire to Learn: A willingness to gain hands-on experience before pursuing further studies in Educational Psychology or related professions.
  • Experience with Children: Previous experience in education, SEN, or mental health support is desirable but not essential-full training is provided.
  • Valuable Experience: Gain direct experience with children with additional learning needs, preparing you for further studies in Educational Psychology or related fields.
  • Specialist Training: Receive support and training in SEN, behaviour management, and intervention strategies.
  • Professional Development: Work alongside experienced teachers, SEN professionals, and psychologists, developing skills that will support your career progression.
  • Supportive Environment: Join a welcoming school community committed to inclusion and child development.
  • Make a Real Impact: Help children overcome challenges and achieve their potential through evidence-based support strategies.
