TEACHER OF PRIMARY (MATERNITY COVER) | Part Time, Fixed Term from May to End of Jun e 2025

Salary - As per St George’s Teachers Salary Scale - at the appropriate point to be agreed on appointment depending on experience.

Job Purpose
  • To be responsible to the Head of Junior School and Nursery in contributing to the delivery of the designated curriculum;
  • To be responsible to the Head of Junior School and Nursery in contributing to the pastoral care of a class of pupils and for monitoring and recording their overall academic progress.

Key Responsibilities

To the Pupils
  • To encourage pupils to take an active part in the life of the school, to improve their own academic performance and to participate fully in the life of the Junior School;
  • To prepare and deliver lessons in line with the agreed curriculum;
  • To stimulate and encourage pupils to a high standard of interest and work, ensuring that the needs of each individual are met;
  • To maintain forward plans and evaluations, including setting homework, in sufficient detail for the Head of Junior School and Nursery;
  • To mark and assess the pupils’ work in line with national, school and departmental requirements, and to record the assessments in line with current policy;
  • To ensure knowledge and observation of health, safety and behaviour codes; to encourage good safe conduct; to monitor uniform/dress;
  • To investigate and discuss individual problems with the Deputy Head of Junior School or Head of Junior School and Nursery.
To the Primary Department
  • To take part in departmental meetings as required by the Head of Junior School and Nursery, and School Policy
  • To participate in curriculum development, the generation of schemes of work and support materials, and to take advice and instruction from the Head of Junior School and Nursery;
  • To keep abreast of relevant educational developments and to attend appropriate in-service training;
  • To keep the Deputy Head or Head of Junior School and Nursery informed of any pupil who might be experiencing difficulties at any time;
  • To supp ort activities out-with the classroom, such ! as trips,! visits or competitions which underpin and/or enhance the effective delivery of the curriculum;
  • To offer, initiate, help with and run extra-curricular activities.
To the Whole School
  • To work with colleagues to promote and maintain high standards of behaviour throughout the School;
  • To advise the Deputy Head or Head of Junior School and Nursery of any pupil who needs care or help or who does not respond to acceptable codes of conduct;
  • To become familiar with and practise the rules and guidelines on Health and Safety and to ensure that pupils are aware of them and comply with them;
  • To complete class registration in the morning before 9.00am;
  • To accompany the class to Assemblies and any extraordinary function;
  • To carry out a share of the supervisory duties in accordanc e with published schedules;
  • To maintain high personal standards of punctuality and appearance;
  • To follow guidelines and meet deadlines for recording and reporting pupil progress; to provide written or verbal reports on request;
  • To contribute, as appropriate, to the professional development of colleagues, probationary and student teachers;
  • To seek the Head’s authorisation for any anticipated absence from School; to give as much notice as possible of unavoidable absence through sickness and to indicate work for the class to follow;
  • To attend all relevant meetings with colleagues and parents and to participate in in-service training.
To the Parents
  • To report to parents routinely, or extraordinarily on demand;
  • To seek to build relationships with parents to promote partnership.
