We are looking for a Dietitian to join us as part of our Diabetes team working across the two campuses at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust. There is also opportunity to work with the community team, within the maternity service and in paediatric diabetes.

The dietitian is a key member of the multidisciplinary team, which includes Diabetes Consultants, Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Midwives.

Main duties of the job

You will be working alongside other dietitians within the team to provide a service to the diabetes population at NUH. The work will be mostly with people on an outpatient basis, building positive relationships and increasing people’s capacity to manage their chronic condition.
You will be involved in one to one education, participating in a variety of clinics such as insulin pump therapy, antenatal, young person's clinic, pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy and the renal diabetes clinic. Applicants should have experience in diabetes, with excellent communication and behavioural change skills and a flexible approach.
You may be involved in structured education, and DAFNE training, remote DAFNE training and an understanding of the latest technology such as Libre and hybrid closed loops, is desirable. Your own continued development will be supported with access to local and national courses and shadowing opportunities alongside other specialist dietitians and mentoring support.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in service development. We are required to support and train students from the University of Nottingham.

The Dietetic service is part of the Specialist Clinical Services Care Group and the newly formed TOPS Directorate. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff, who works together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to.
Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff.

There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

This job involves working within outpatients settings across both the City and QMC campus of NUH and within the community providing dietetic support for people with diabetes.

We act as a source of expertise on Dietetics and Nutrition for staff, and patients including the provision of education and training. You would work as a member of a departmental team with the support of the appropriate team leader.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Dietitian (4 year degree, post-graduate diploma or equivalent).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council.
Desirable criteria
  • Member of BDA including specialist group.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as a registered dietitian
  • Able to apply additional depth of knowledge gained through experience to specialist area.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in relevant specialist area/s.

Communication & Relationship skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including explaining, negotiating, motivating and training
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information and respond to people who are distressed or anxious.
  • Able to overcome difficulties in communication, including language barriers, and adapt approach to varying situations.
  • Able to overcome barriers to understanding.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
