Job summary We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Assistant Psychologist to join the Therapies team at the Woodleigh Community Hospital. We are an independent mental health community rehabilitation hospital with a mixed patient population.

The successful candidate will support psychological assessment and interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, working independently according to treatment plans agreed with the clinical psychologist and broader MDT within the framework of the teams policies and procedures.

Woodleigh serves a dynamic and changing patient population with diverse and complex needs, including a current cohort of patients with severe Obsessive
-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), in addition to those with long-standing psychosis, comorbid physical health conditions, and often challenging presentations.
You will be part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team comprised of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Specialist Occupational Therapist, and Occupational Therapist.
They sit within the broader MDT comprising a Consultant Psychiatrist, Nurses, and Support Workers.

The successful applicant must have an honours degree or conversion course (MSc) in psychology and experience with face to face working in mental health, ideally in a hospital or care setting.
We are seeking an individual with an understanding of psychology applied to mental health care and an ability to apply your psychological knowledge to complex mental illness and its treatment.

You must be self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work individually as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team, undertaking work with service users alongside support workers and nursing staff.

Main Tasks and responsibilities Clinical
  • To undertake psychological interventions under the supervision of the qualified clinical psychologist
  • To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving psychological treatment and/or psychological treatment and management of the patients problems under the supervision of qualified staff
  • To assist the consultant clinical psychologist during assessments of potential inpatients
  • To contribute to the running, co-ordination and development of a programme of therapeutic groups and activities
  • To facilitate the evaluation of individual and group therapeutic interventions
  • Woodleigh Community Hospital is located in Croydon and much of the clinical workload will be within the hospital, however the post holder will also be expected to undertake outreach one to one outreach work in the community with patients.
  • To engage with a complex and challenging patient group supporting them in daily therapeutic and rehabilitation activities
  • To work closely with other members of the MDT to deliver a consistent level of safe and effective care to patients
  • To support a psychologically based framework of understanding for patients and staff across a broad range of diagnoses and interventions
  • To attend and contribute to MDT meetings and reviews Teaching, Training and supervision
  • To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines and local policy
  • To gain wider understanding and experience of relevant psychiatric disorders and therapeutic interventions, research, through supervision, training, reflective practice and independent study driven by patient need and presentation
  • To develop professional skills and competencies which assist the delivery of relevant therapeutic interventions and duties
  • To complete all necessary and mandatory online training
  • To contribute to the support of other staff in the MDT, their understanding and engagement with psychological treatment approaches, and facilitate a positive work environment
  • To complete PRICE / breakaway and restraint training
  • To attend and contribute to a weekly Reflective Practice group Research, audit, service evaluation and development
  • To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service a required
  • To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed appropriate
  • To collect and complete allocated audit and clinical governance tasks as required
  • To assimilate and analyse and report psychometric data including pre and post treatment measures to reflect good practice, evidence based practice and practice based evidences IT responsibilities
  • To be able to send and receive emails, attachments, word processing, basic spreadsheets and data collection
  • To use computers to write reports, contribute to care plans and record data
  • To keep accurate digital clinical records
  • To use research databases and tools for analysis at quantitative and qualitative levels
  • To demonstrate knowledge of and comply with GDPR General
  • Support and enhance psychological care and therapeutic interventions to inpatients with complex mental and physical health needs at Woodleigh Community Hospital
  • Assist in clinical administration where necessary i.e., conduct of audits, managing outcome data, spreadsheets
  • Create strong therapeutic relationships with patients to enhance the delivery of therapeutic treatment
  • Work closely and sensitively with the MDT in a busy and challenging environment with a variety of patient need and staff skills and knowledge
  • To undertake specific administrative duties as required
  • To perform other duties of aa similar kind appropriate to the grade which may be required from time to time by their psychology supervisor To be noted:
