We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Inpatient Assistant Service Manager in Surgery (General surgery, ENT, Max Fax and Dental). The post will be of interest to those who wish to pursue a career in hospital management and would like to gain more experience in busy services with a wide variety of challenges.

The posts will provide an extensive opportunity to build and develop skills required to move forward to a more senior role. The successful candidates will be joining a supportive, forward thinking department which values team work and a positive approach

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone with good experience of operational management, ideally within the NHS, who is enthusiastic, willing to learn and has a positive approach to challenges. You will need to have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate that you can lead and motivate a team, as well as build relationships with a variety of professionals.
You will need to liaise with patients of all ages, clinicians at all levels and managers within the Trust and at external organisations. Time management and prioritasation skills are also essential as you will need to balance the demands of a very busy workload.

We are looking for someone who thrives in a busy and pressured environment, who uses their initiative and thinks outside the box.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • At least 2 years healthcare experience
  • • Experience of managing staff rotas
  • • Maximising efficiencies within a team
  • • Achieving KPIs, national and local targets, also holding staff to account against these
  • • Staff motivation within a team
  • • Evidence of excellence innovation and achievement in management practice.
  • • Evidence of waiting list management as appropriate to role.
  • • Management and leadership of a large team of team leaders and front line staff
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of successful operational leadership and effective involvement in change management
  • • Evidence of appreciation and achievement in management of financial targets and budgetary management;

Qualifications & training

Essential criteria
  • • Degree level or equivalent qualification/equivalent level of experience
  • • Managerial qualification, acquired through degree or equivalent experience sufficient to demonstrate the necessary operational management experience required including staff and financial management
  • • Demonstrable experience of service review
Desirable criteria
  • • Recognised management qualification

  • • Plans collaboratively with others, co-ordinates and monitors the delivery of services and/or projects with clear quality indicators and timescales.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Awareness and understanding of national policy concerning patient care and developments within the NHS
  • • Knowledge of HR policies and procedures in the NHS
  • • A detailed understanding of 18 weeks, diagnostic, cancer pathways and trust access policy
Desirable criteria
  • • Keeps abreast of national and local developments in health and social care and local data e.g. survey data on quality outcomes.
  • • Knowledge of the trust IT systems (iclip, EDM, E-triage)
