Receptionist/Clerk - Emergency Department -- Band 3 role

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a small friendly team undertaking receptionist and administrative duties in our Emergency Department.
The Emergency Department is a busy, interesting place to work and sees 47,000 patients a year on average and the majority of them are booked in by our ED Receptionist/Clerk team.
Emergency Department Reception operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so you will work as part of a rota working nights, weekends and some bank holidays. Rotas are planned 6 weeks in advance and enhancements are payable for all unsocial hour shifts.

Main duties of the job
The role is within the Bed Bureau part of our Emergency Department taking calls from GPs, Minor Injuries Units, and other hospitals referring patients into the hospital for speciality-related care. You will be responsible for taking those calls, liaising with the speciality service and booking transport for the patient, if required.

Education,Qualifications&Train
Essential criteria- Evidence of good literacy skills
- Evidence of good numeracy skills
- Must have an understanding & knowledge of general office equipment
- NVQ 3 or equiv in Customer Service or evidence of equivalent practice
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria- Pervious experience within a clerical environment
- Previous expereince working with PAS/equiv
- Knowledge/expereince of working in a multi-cultural environment
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Skills & Competencies
Essential criteria- Evidence of keyboard skills
- Evidence to be able to work on own initiative but also as part of a team
- Ability to handle several tasks at once with frequent interruptions & prioritise workload
- An understanding of confidentility
- Ability to deal with general stresses or working with difficult patients/distressing circumstances
- Evidence of ability to communicate with all levels of staff & members of the public
