Health Care Assistant/ Activity Organiser

Work with patients, Occupational Therapists and nursing staff to identify patient centred activities that the patient enjoys, finds occupationally meaningful and which occupy and divert the patient in a positive way improving the quality of lifeTo provide instruction (verbal and non-verbal) to patients on a range of activities as part of the activities programme, in a way that maintains their dignity and which demonstrates respectTo develop a rapport with patients, to encourage and motivate them to participate in activity (in either group work or individual work)To contribute to the development and implementation of a creative and innovative activities programme responsive to the varying needs of the patient group, and which the Occupational Therapist will endorseTo maintain and update an activity plan on the ward and therapeutic leave activities that take place away from the ward setting, and allocate time to organize activity over a 7 day period and for periods of absenceTo observe general behaviour, abilities and responses of patients and report them verbally to the multi-disciplinary team and within the electronic patient recordTo participate in clinical discussions and reviews as requiredTo regularly attend identified handovers within the Therapy team and Ward teamTo assist Occupational Therapist/nursing team with compiling risk assessmentsPatients suitability to attend therapeutic leave activities away from the ward settingRisk assessment of proposed venue or activity for suitability for the needs of our patient groupsTo co-assist qualified staff members in therapeutic group work with patientsHandle monies while out on trips with patients where necessary and provide receipts for all transactions as per Trust Policy for accounting and audit purposesAny other duties as required by the Occupational TherapistTo support patient protected mail times and promote meal times as a social and therapeutic eventAssist patients to meet their dietary requirements to promote recovery and wellbeingAssist patients with their personal hygiene needs to promote recovery and routine
