Staff Nurse - Interventional Radiology - Band 6

Fixed term/Secondment until (1 year until July 2027)

Due to maternity leave, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced senior nurse to join our dynamic, forward thinking and dedicated service for a fixed maternity cover. The post holder deputises for the Senior Nurse, ensuring the effective running of the department in his/her absence.

Working closely with the Senior Nurse and the Associate Director of Nursing, the Junior Sister/Charge Nurse is responsible for the delivery of professional nursing care to meet patient needs according to the standard agreed in the Performance Management Framework and the Nursing Strategy.

The post holder is responsible for providing clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff, facilitating practice development within the clinical area. The post holder will also be involved in developing services related to area of practice such as nurse led sedation services, IV access and out of hours’ service provision.

To provide and maintain the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care within the Interventional radiology department and in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.

To assist in the delivery of patient care, pre, peri-op and post procedure of diagnostics and/or interventional procedures.

Main duties of the job
  • To ensure that the care delivered to patients is a result of individual assessment of their need using an appropriate assessment framework and actively seek consent in the delivery of such care.
  • Collaborating with the Senior Sister and ADN, develop care pathways, clinical practice guidelines and protocols in line with National Service Frameworks, Department of Health guidance and the National Institute of Clinical Excellence to facilitate delivery of care which is best practice.
  • To actively encourage application of Essence of Care (DOH 2001) benchmarks to daily practice and in the delivery of care to patients.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise by regularly practicing alongside the nursing team delivering hands on care, using highly developed physical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • To encourage creative, innovative practice that positively impacts on patient care.

Education and Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of participating in CPD
  • Mentorship experience
Desirable criteria
  • Radiology Course or Equivalent

Knowledge and Understanding

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates and understanding of clinical emergencies, prioritisation and decision making
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Interventional Radiological Procedures and Radiation Protection
  • Demonstrates awareness of the principles of infection control and aseptic technique
  • Good understanding of anatomy
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Peripheral Vascular disease

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Radiology nursing experience Or Minimum of 12 months recent, continuous experience of nursing care in an acute setting post registration
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in supervision of junior staff/others

Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good written communication skills and organisational skills
  • Punctuality and flexible approach to meet the needs of the department
  • Cannulation and Phlebotomy Certification
  • IV Drug Administration Certification
