Job overview
We are looking for highly motivated Surgical Pre-Operative Assessment Team Leader to join our Theatre Team at Brecon and Llandrindod Hospitals. The role of Surgical Pre-Operative Assessment Team Leader is to be accountable for their own practice including the assessment and referral of patients, working autonomously within the pre-operative assessment clinic.Implementing care, providing specialist advice and clinical practice and drawing up clinical management plans whilst mindful of pathways, guidelines and targets.
Main duties of the job
This role carries the highest level of perioperative expertise within the surgical preoperative assessment team. The post holder will be able to deputise for the theatre manager in their absence.
Provide leadership, guidance, advice and liaison to the multidisciplinary team. Supporting and contributing to development of clinical pathways, service improvement and re design initiatives within the area.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria- 1st level Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)
- Demonstrate activity in meeting requirements of clinical governance
- Demonstrate and put into practice professional achievements
- Pre-Operative Assessment Foundation Course
- Up to date portfolio and evidence of professional development
- Strong personal drive and ambition to succeed
- Evidence of post basic academic studies at Diploma or degree level
- Post-basic qualification and an ongoing supervision in the perioperative setting
- Completion of MSc module in peri operative care
- Mentorship qualification
Experience
Essential criteria- Extensive experience within Surgical Pre-Operative Team
- Proven ability to lead a team with excellent organisational and communication skills
- Competence and skills including venepuncture, ECG interpretation, physical examination
- Demonstrate effectiveness with other members of the team
- Participated in a management or leadership course
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria- Demonstration of awareness of national developments and standards
- Caring attitude, motivated, Team worker, open & honest
- Ability to speak Welsh
- Knowledge of specialist equipment
