Job overview
The post-holder will work with the senior research nurses to develop and grow their portfolio of research and ensure studies meet various performance indicators and objectives as set by the NIHR and the department. This will include acting as a role model and providing expert practice, education development and leadership.The post holder will be responsible for leading the research nursing practice, research skills, and their development and training. The post holder will also act as line manager, for senior research staff and other research staff where appropriate.
The postholder will be the nursing and AHP lead for the follow up service. They will be required to actively lead and participate in the Critical Care Follow up clinics and undertake administrative duties in relation to the running of the clinic.They are responsible for developing the follow up service to achieve the goals established in NICE guideline CG83 – Rehabilitation after Critical Illness and any new related guidance.
Main duties of the job- Be responsible for promoting and overseeing the appropriate referral and recruitment of patients to research within the unit.
- Provide on-going specialised advice and information to patients/next of kin about their participation in clinical research in order to facilitate effective informed consent. Screen and recruit patients to trials and obtain consent where appropriate.
- Ensure that all proposed research projects carried out on the unit are registered and reviewed by the Trust Research, Development and Innovation Directorate and National Research Ethics Service prior to commencement and that updates and amendments are reported in a timely fashion.
- Assist in the preparation of results of research and audit for presentation as posters or scientific presentations.
- Assess and evaluate the progress of on-going clinical trials, research and audit undertaken in the department maintaining accurate records of the status of studies and providing regular updates to the department on the status of the studies.
- Safeguard the interests of trial patients by liaison with relevant trial personnel and trial protocols to ensure compliance with the International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP) and Research Governance framework Guidelines.
- Provide advice and support to other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge
Essential criteria- Registered Nurse
- GCP certificate
- Comprehensive understanding of research process
- Managerial qualification
- Research Course at L6 or higher
- Post registration qualification in Critical Care
Experience
Essential criteria- Post registration experience in a clinical research environment
- Management experience
- Conversant with DOH Research Governance Framework for health and social care
- Demonstration of self directed development
Skills
Essential criteria- Clinical skills including phlebotomy
- Interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
- Keyboard skills and knowledge of databases
- Good presentation skills
