The National Strategic Clinical Network for Cancer is an exciting strategic organisation to work for, that drives the collaboration of Health Boards, Trusts, professional and charitable organisations and aims to improve the experience and quality of services for people who are diagnosed with cancer.

To deliver on our aim, our work programmes focus on early detection, diagnosis, treatment and care pathways.

Any candidate should have a proven track record and understand the Cancer Network agenda and organisational arrangements to succeed in supporting and delivering Network business. Candidates will need to demonstrate proven ability.

Our working arrangements still require candidates to work from home, however the offices of the NHS Executive include Cardiff, Baglan and Llandudno. Willingness and ability to travel across NHS Wales organisations is essential.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an excellent Programme Support Officer, providing high-level administrative support, liaising with colleagues, stakeholders and a wide range of professionals using strong communication skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work as part of a team implementing the strategic priorities through specific workstreams delivered by the Cancer Strategic Network within the NHS Executive to deliver their programme of work. The post holder will support team members to deliver on national and regional projects.

They will need to develop good relationships and work closely with a broad range of partners including the Clinical Leaders, Welsh Government, Health Board and Trust colleagues, patients, third sector and other stakeholders to facilitate the delivery of the work plan.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Level 4 qualification (NVQ) or equivalent demonstrable level of experience
  • PRINCE 2 Foundation or equivalent demonstrable experience
Desirable criteria
  • MSP Foundation
  • Microsoft Project

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of communicating with all levels of professional staff and the public
  • Experience of dealing with confidential and sensitive data and appropriate maintenance and storage of records
  • Experience of operating Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience of producing management information reports
  • Experience of project implementation and monitoring on-going projects
  • Experience of managing finance systems e.g., budget monitoring
  • Experience of managing, maintaining, and developing systems and procedures
  • Experience of implementing administrative policies and procedures
  • Experience of applying project management methodologies
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of monitoring performance indicators
  • Experience of formal minute taking

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Thorough understanding of administrative procedures
  • Thorough understanding of programme office functions
  • Knowledge of filing/data systems including records management

  • Knowledge and understanding of Public Health Wales
