Bournemouth - Healthcare Support Worker - Radiotherapy | University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Assistant to work in the Radiotherapy Department based at the Robert White Radiotherapy Centre at Dorset County Hospital.
The Radiotherapy Department treats cancer patients all over Dorset and is run and managed by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for high calibre individuals with good interpersonal and communication skills to be a key part of our friendly and supportive team, working directly with oncology cancer patients.
The role is to help facilitate the radiotherapy treatment preparation routine to patients and to support the radiotherapy outpatient setting along side a team of radiographers and other medical and technical experts.
You will be motivated to develop personally in a supportive learning environment and learn such skills as to use an ultrasound bladder scanner and support wound dressing.
Applicants do not require any radiotherapy experience as training will be provided.
Applicants without care/medical experience will be considered
This post is being advertised as a Band 3, however applicants that do not meet the required care certificate competencies will initially be employed as a Band 2. Applicants who hold a care certificate accreditation will start in post at Band 3.
Rota: 3 days per week - Wednesday, Thursday and FridayBase Location: Robert White Radiotherapy Centre- Dorset County Hospital
Welcome patients, relatives and visitors to the clinical area and maintain a courteous and helpful manner at all times
Help support the radiotherapy reception staff by making sure that the reception desk is manned
Support clinical staff and patients by working closely with the treatment units, pre-treatment and other clinical teams by relaying instructions to patients as required
To support clinical staff making sure suitable wound dressings are used at the appropriate time
Update patients on any delays to their radiotherapy treatment.
Consider the patient’s health, safety and wellbeing whilst undertaking personal care referring to other staff as appropriate
Ensure any discomfort or pain experienced by the patient is reported to the appropriate member of the team as per plan of care and hospital policies
Able to use own initiative when carrying out personal care duties
