Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a locum (9 PA) Consultant General Paediatrician at UHBW for a 6 month fixed term post with the possiblity to extend beyond this time. We are seeking an enthusiastic, passionate and dynamic individual who will enhance our established team of Consultant Paediatricians.You will take part in the general workload of the department and play a vital role in the delivery of healthcare for Children and Young People across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. We are looking for a colleague who is driven and enterprising, but also adaptable, to join our team.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will be an integral part of the General Paediatric service, delivering weeks as the named service consultant, as well as contributing to the second on call rota year-round. General Paediatrics provide rapid access clinics and routine general paediatric clinics and the postholder will be expected to deliver these in a variety of locations across the city to allow patients to access healthcare closer to home.
An exciting new development with BrisDoc is the provision of same day telephone advice to Primary Care to avoid admission and to ensure the right care in the right place at the right time; the postholder will be expected to contribute to this new service.There may also be the opportunity for the right applicant to contribute to the dedicated safeguarding rota which is provided by a team of consultants from differing backgrounds and supported by the safeguarding nursing team.
The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the out of hours rota with dedicated DCC and the agreed uplift.

Person specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria- Full and specialist registration in either AIM or GIM with the General Medical Council (GMC) or
- RCPCH SPIN module in epilepsy or equivalent experience
- Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in general paediatrics, paediatric epilepsy and safeguarding
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
- Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy
Clinical Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria- Up to date knowledge and experience of of general paediatrics, paediatric epilepsy and safeguarding children and young people
- Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
- Skills in acute paediatric assessment and management, and delivery of outpatient general paediatric care
- Broad range of IT skills
Clinical Governance and Audit
Essential criteria- Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
- Positive approach to evidence based practice
- Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation
Research
Essential criteria- Knowledge of the principles involved in research
- Evidence of involvement in research

Teaching and Training
Essential criteria- Experience of teaching medical students.
