The Mathematics Department is a highly successful and dynamic team, comprising 14 dedicated teachers with diverse backgrounds and extensive experience. The department thrives under strong and supportive leadership, fostering a collaborative and ambitious teaching environment.The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic teacher with the ability to inspire students across all abilities. They will be expected to teach Mathematics from Key Stage 3 through to Key Stage 4, as well as A-Level Mathematics. A willingness to teach both Pure and Applied Mathematics at A-Level is essential.
Additionally, the role involves taking on specific responsibilities within the department.
Mathematics sets are structured flexibly and reviewed biannually to allow for movement between sets where appropriate. However, during the final year leading up to GCSEs, changes are minimised to maintain stability. From the First to Fifth Year, students are grouped by ability, with the highest-ability sets having the largest numbers and lower-ability sets kept smaller to ensure more focused, individualised support.
The department utilises a wide range of high-quality resources to deliver an engaging and effective curriculum. In the First and Second Year, the "Essential Maths" series forms the core of the teaching materials. For the Third to Fifth Year, a variety of textbooks and supplementary resources are employed to support the curriculum.The department is exceptionally well-resourced, offering an array of equipment and mathematical software such as Mathswatch, Integral Maths and MathsPad to enhance both teaching and learning.
Consistently achieving outstanding academic results, the Mathematics Department’s success is built on the dedication and expertise of its staff. At Key Stage 4, all students sit the International GCSE, with the highest-performing sets also entering the IGCSE Further Mathematics course.The department has a proven record of excellence at both IGCSE and A-Level, with Mathematics being the most popular subject at A-Level.
At A-Level, the department consistently achieves a 100% pass rate, with at least 70% of students attaining A*-A grades in Mathematics. In Further Mathematics, results are equally impressive, with over 90% of students achieving A*-A grades in recent years.An increasing number of students are progressing to study Mathematics in higher education, a pathway actively supported and encouraged by the department. The Edexcel GCE specification underpins the A-Level curriculum, with resources endorsed by Pearson forming the basis of the teaching programme.
The department operates from dedicated classrooms, all equipped with roller boards and Interactive Whiteboards. Staff members also have access to office space. To support innovative and effective teaching practices, each member of staff is provided with both an iPad and a laptop.
