We are delighted to be able to offer a rare and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Pharmacist to join the Paediatric Haematology/Oncology/BMT Pharmacy Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

We are looking for someone special to provide a clinical Cancer Service to the Inpatient and Day-Care Wards (both NHS and Private Patients) as well as supporting the Principal Pharmacist deliver Directorate responsibilities in a fast paced tertiary Paediatric centre.
You will be part of an expert multidisciplinary team contributing to the safe and pharmaceutically appropriate clinical service to children with Cancer including dealing with many Cancer Trials. You will be at the forefront of Paediatric Cancer and see rare and challenging cases.

This is an ideal role for someone who is passionate and has an interest in Paediatric Haematology and Oncology as well as contributing to improving the patient/carer experience in medicines use.

The role will be rotational within the Cancer Directorate to ensure there is knowledge and cross cover between all areas.

You must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and be a self-starter. You must also have experience working within Paediatrics and/or a degree of Cancer Care knowledge including delivering a ward based Pharmacist role.

Some experience of training/supervision is desirable, as well as being an Independent Prescriber. The team of Pharmacists you will join are experienced and extremely supportive.

Main duties of the job
  • To deliver a clinical pharmacy service to the Inpatient and Daycare Haematology/Oncology wards, including screening chemotherapy and its supportive care as required
  • To rotate through BMT services and delivery a high level service to transplant patient and integrate with the MDT.
  • To participate in the standardisation and validation of new chemotherapy protocols including trial protocols
  • To support the Principal Pharmacist in preparing submission for the Drug & Therapeutics Committee.
  • To support the Clinical Trials pharmacist in the setting up and review of clinical trials
  • To lead, support and develop junior pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists in the rotation by acting as a role model or section manager
  • To support the pharmacists working within the cytotoxic unit with prescription screening, worksheet generation and final release of products as required
  • To participate in departmental and multidisciplinary audit/research activities, to ensure that cost-improvement and quality targets are met
  • The role will offer exposure to the care of children under both NHS and private patient directorates.
  • Support a second specialist oncall OOH service to cancer wards.
