Salary £28,000 per annum
Hours of Work: 37.5 Monday to Friday
Equivalent to 5 weeks annual leave PLUS Bank Holidays

We are looking to appoint a Microbiologist to join our team in Lifton. The site Microbiologist role will report directly into the Lab Supervisor and will support the site with development projects which help drive forward our microbiological excellence, conduct investigations including general hygiene monitoring improvements, non-routine investigations and the microbiology of customer complaints where required.Day to day work will include adherence to CLAS principles and procedures, conducting environmental hygiene monitoring, raw material sampling, microbiologically testing samples of finished product ensuring legal requirements are met. The Microbiologist role will support and deputise the for the Lab Supervisor where required.
What you'll be doing:
- Work with site to investigate and advise on routine microbiological test improvements
- Undertake project work to drive forward microbiological excellence
- Support site sterility and inoculation trial work
- Conduct research, utilising internal and external resources to provide microbiological insight into site non-routine investigations.
- Investigate microbiology of customer and consumer complaints at the request of the Quality Manager, with an active involvement in spoiled product investigations
- Manage the timely incubation and assessments of commercial sterility of finished product samples, according to procedures in quality system and CLAS / industry requirements, arranging re-sampling / retesting as necessary
- Assess raw materials against specification, release, quarantine or reject raw materials on warehouse management system (SAP)
- Conduct routine environmental monitoring of hygiene in production areas using swabs, water samples, air samples, Biotrace swabs and hygiene auditing
- Ensure compliance documentation is completed accurately and correctly
- On time and accurate delivery of data recording
What we need from you:
- Experience of working in a laboratory environment
- Relevant degree level qualification in related scientific field
- Knowledge of the food or drink industry
