We are looking to appoint to a Whole-Time Consultant Obstetrician with an opportunity to further special interests or advanced practise in Maternal Medicine / Gestational diabetes to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Jessop Wing of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a Comprehensive Obstetrics Service. The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract. They will contribute to the work of the maternity team by participating in a wide range of activities depending on their specialist interests.This would include: antenatal clinics and clinics with women diagnosed with gestational diabetes; working on labour ward; a variety of opportunities in specialist antenatal clinics (e.g. maternal medicine) managing high-risk inpatients, contributing to various MDT meetings and liaising with obstetric colleagues in surrounding units as part of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Local Maternity and Neonatal system.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Full registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
- Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview
- If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- MD or PhD or equivalent
- ATSM/SITM in maternal medicine or equivalent.
Continuous Professional Development
Essential criteria- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Personal attributes
Essential criteria- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix)
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ensures value for money is considered in all that they do.

Essential criteria- Experience of teaching medical students and resident doctors.

Essential criteria- Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management
Clinical governance and audit
Essential criteria- Experience in performing clinical audit
- Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project
Clinical experience
Essential criteria- Evidence of appropriate broad based competence and experience in Obstetrics
- Evidence of competence in contemporary management strategies in Obstetrics.
- Willingness to acquire/improve clinical skills & knowledge in Obstetrics.
- Ability to work as an independent practitioner in general Obstetrics.
- Ability to prioritise clinical problems in a complex environment.
- Demonstrate an ability to manage complex specialist patients in a tertiary centre.
- ATSM Advanced Labour Ward Practice.
- Experience of working with vulnerable women during pregnancy.
- Fetal Medicine or other qualifications in area of specialist interest.
- Experience of working on the triage and management of women presenting for unscheduled care in pregnancy
