An exciting opportunity has arisen for two enthusiastic and innovative Occupational Health Technicians, to support the SHWB team with the delivery of an effective high quality Occupational Health and Wellbeing services to the staff here at MKUH.
As an Occupational Health Technician, you will undertake a wide range of learned skills; this will be performed under the direct and indirect supervision of a suitably qualified Occupational Health Nurse (OHN).
Knowledge and experience of Occupational Health is desirable for this role however full training will be provided. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in all aspects of a holistic wellbeing as this is an integral part of this role.

The role of the Occupational Health Technician is to support the delivery of high-quality occupational health services to employees and external clients, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
The Occupational Health Technician has a breadth of knowledge and is able to provide holistic support to staff and clients utilising a biopsychosocial model.
The Occupational Health Technician works independently and manages their own case load including conducting health assessments, screenings, and supporting the development and implementation of health policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of employees.
Integral to this role is the ability to communicate effectively in a sensitive and compassionate manner, maintaining client confidentiality and escalate or refer to the registered professional effectively.
The Occupational Health Technician must focus on maintaining the health and wellbeing of all staff groups within the organisation and within external customer organisations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical- Perform pre-placement screening in a timely manner, including providing a response to their line manager with regards to their employee’s work health and any adjustments they may require.
- Conduct health screening including food handling questionnaires, night worker health assessment and drugs and alcohol testing.
- Maintain and update employee health records in compliance with confidentiality and data protection guidelines.
- Provide administrative support in the day-to-day operations of the occupational health department.
- Assist in audit of clinical practice, also data collection for Occupational Health reporting purposes.
- Produce monthly KPIs to demonstrate health surveillance status and to monitor compliance.
- Provide support to new team members
- Undertake delivery of training sessions to staff regarding health and wellbeing agenda in line with legislative and best practice guidelines.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential criteria- Foundation degree or equivalent work experience
- Level 3 certificate award for OH Technicians
- Knowledge of Occupational Health settings
- An understanding of the needs of the client and the role of the Occupational Health Technician
- Knowledge of Health & Wellbeing initiatives
- Has undertaken Audiometry/Spirometry training
- Knowledge of health promotion programmes
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of conducting health surveillance
- Previous experience of Occupational Health client/patient contact, clinicians, managers and staff
- Experience of undertaking work assessments and supporting more junior staff
- Experience in an Occupational Health technician role
- Experience within the NHS/Healthcare setting
- Experience of working with OH systems
- Experience of implementing care/support as directed by the registered professional
- Experience of working with confidential and sensitive information
- Experience of managing own caseload and working to tight deadlines
- A basic understanding of audit and quality assurance
- Experience of infection control issues in relation to OH such as immunisation schedules and infectious disease contact tracing
- Experience of working with external clients
- Knowledge of national issues around OH
- Experience of conducting Audiometry, Spirometry, Vision Testing, Height / Weight / BMI, Blood Pressures, Fit for tasks assessment, DSE etc.
