We are currently recruiting for band 6 radiographers to join our Cross Sectional Imaging team at East Lancs NHS Hospitals Trust. The successful applicants will have excellent Image quality and patient care high on their agenda. They will be working with a highly skilled team of radiographers, radiologists and radiology assistants, who provide a patient-focused CT service.

These posts could be full time posts, or additionally we are happy to hear from applicants requiring part time or flexible working.

The department is set over 3 sites, Blackburn Royal Hospital and Burnley General Hospital and Rosendale Primary care and currently consists of 5 CT Scanners and 5 MRI scanners.
  • 128 slice Siemens X-cite with CT Perfusion for our acute and ED work
  • 1 Canon Prism one with cardiac applications
  • 80 slice Cannon Aquilion Lightening SP
  • 2 x 80 slice Toshiba Aquilion Prime CT Scanners
  • 2 x 1.5 T Canon Vantage Orian MRI scanners
  • Siemens Sola-Fit
  • Siemens Sola
  • Philips Ingenia Evolution mobile unit currently sited at Rossendale. Can be moved to Clitheroe and Blackburn mobile pads.

To provide a high quality responsive diagnostic radiographic service for CT and MRI scanning department, whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.

To take responsibility for the organisation of staff and workflow recognising the global needs of the department and service provided.

Band 6 posts require proven experience of MRI and/or CT procedures and a high level of MRI and/or CT scanning knowledge.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Radiographer to join our team at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful applicant will be a keen team player who has image quality and patient care high on their agenda. Candidates should have a flexible approach to their working hours as this contract will be flexible across 7 day working.

This is a very exciting time to join the cross sectional imaging team at ELHT as we have a new dedicated MRI unit based at Burnley hospital , we have also successfully replaced our old MRI scanners with Siemens Sola and Siemens Sola fit. We are also in process of replacing our Siemens Definition AS- CT scanner with a new Siemens X.cite scanner.

The post holder will be expected to rotate across all the MRI and/or CT departments to support service and professional development. This is a forward thinking Radiology department that supports Radiographer advanced practice, we have 2 CT Head Reporting Radiographers, 1 MRI Reporting Radiographer and trained CT Colonography Radiographers.

You will have demonstrated the skills necessary to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and have the ability to take the lead in the absence of Senior Colleagues.

We are an innovative department constantly looking at ways to optimise patient care by offering role development for our team. In Radiology we have Consultant Radiographers, a large reporting radiographer team including CT Head reporting and MR MSK reporting.

  1. To perform a wide variety of CT and MRI scanning examinations on patients commensurate with a high level of radiographic skill and patient care.
  2. To ensure a high-quality patient focussed service throughout the department ensuring all aspects of the service are delivered within the departments defined quality standards.
  3. To ensure the delivery of a professional and expert service in all areas of the Cross-Sectional Imaging Department.
  4. To be proactive in the monitoring of the service provided in the department and develop and implement proposals for improving the service.
  5. To perform a wide range of unsupervised CT and MRI examinations within set protocols.
  6. To have a flexible approach to work and be willing to adapt to service needs as they arise, able to participate in the 24/7 shift system and work flexible hours.
  7. Comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulation 1999, (IRR 99) and the Ionising (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000, (IRMER 2000) ensuring radiation doses are kept as low as reasonable achievable in line with Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRL).
  8. To act responsibly regarding matters concerning radiation protection for staff and patients. To seek help from the Radiation Protection Supervisor when required. To always follow the local rules.
  9. To undertake the autonomous evaluation of CT/MRI scan images for diagnostic suitability before submission for reporting.
  10. Be proficient in the use of the equipment within all departments, maintaining personal clinical competence commensurate with good practise.
  11. To be a team leader offering clinical and technical advice as required to Students, Assistant Practitioners, and less qualified staff.
  12. To take an active role in promoting excellent Infection Control procedures regarding Antiseptic No Touch Technique (ANTT).
  13. To administer contrast media when required according to department policies and procedures, intravenous Injection certificate is desirable. If not a willingness to undertake this training is required.
  14. To have sufficient knowledge to assess when the use of contrast media may be contra-indicated and can assess the patient’s physical condition post injection, to check for any reaction and take appropriate steps if a reaction does occur.
  15. To undertake such clerical duties as may be necessary for the progression of patients through the department, ensuring accuracy of records in accordance with professional standards.
  16. Participate in the collection of data for clerical/technical/clinical audit purposes.
  17. Have a sound knowledge of IT based skills.
  18. To deputise for the band 7 radiographers and undertake specific leadership responsibilities as designated by them.
  19. To be responsible for the radiation dose received by patients during their CT examinations.
  20. To be responsible for MR safety of staff, patients, and visitors to the MRI Department.
  21. To be competent in the use of accessory equipment such as oxygen and suction machines and appropriate resuscitation equipment.
  22. Be able to exercise personal responsibility and make decisions in unpredictable situations.
  23. To report all equipment faults.
