To carry out patrols and provide escorts as requested. To undertake cash lifts ensuring that all departmental procedures are followed. To respond to any security incident within an agreed time frame, including the use of reasonable force, if necessary and in line with Trust policy, law and legislation.
When responding to an incident officers are required to seek clinical advice where available. To work as part of the Fire Response & Major incident teams, liaising with other departments and the Fire Brigade as appropriate and in line with Trust policies.
To promote a pro-security culture within the Trust so that patients and staff accept responsibility for this issue. Whilst ensuring that where security incidents / breaches do occur that they are detected and reported. To actively seek information / intelligence associated with criminal offences committed and to identify suspects and trends.
All post holders will be expected to take part in the Trust Development Programme for training Security Staff. The post holder will be required to use the patrolling system (Diester) when undertaking patrols. This will include, when necessary, patrols of the car parks and to report on any relevant discoveries.
To support with car parking & traffic management duties when required. This may include minor fault repairs to car parking machines, the management of traffic flow and the reporting of inappropriate parking. To investigate security incidents / breaches in a fair, objective and professional manner so that the appropriate sanctions are taken and consideration of preventive action takes place.
To attend court and give evidence in relation to any incident that he / she has any personal knowledge / involvement. To ensure that all Health & Safety requirements are met and maintained, whilst actively pursuing and reinforcing the Trusts policies in relation to Equal Opportunities and Diversity legislation.
To comply with the Trust and local security policies. To operate the department communication equipment in line with departmental policies and procedures. To answer telephone queries in a polite and courteous manner and where possible assist and or advise in line with Trust Policy and Procedures.
To drive Trust vehicles as and when required. To liaise with the police, fire brigade and other emergency services, assist in the search of buildings, and other matters involving the preservation of life and prevention of danger. To conduct traffic management and car parking duties outside of the hours that the contracted car parking and traffic management service operates.
This will include attending to minor equipment faults / issues such as resets and stock replenishment, car park patrols, responding to queries from car park users, receiving payments etc. To support NUH staff with minor ID card / access control issues outside of the Access Control Office opening times.
To be knowledgeable with Trust policies, procedures and to be able to offer guidance where necessary. Whilst on duty you are required to be smartly dressed at all times wearing only Trust approved items of uniform which you will be provided with.

To monitor all alarms ensuring all equipment is operational and that faults are reported immediately. To use designated powers & policies when intervening at incidents, whilst deterring, and preventing crime and other anti-social behaviour. To undertake, as appropriate, necessary tasks and risks associated in restraining / detaining individuals, some of which may have mental health / capacity issues, or of minors or the elderly, under medical / chemical treatment or under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol (a non-exhaustive list).
To provide a presence within the Emergency Department and comply with all appropriate requirements commensurate with their training and in line with the Security Assignment Instructions.
