Job overview

As the Associate Director the post-holder will provide strategic direction and leadership to the education and training function. They will help us realise our ambition of shaping the workforce of the future by supporting all colleagues who wish to develop and grow, inspiring our students and learners throughout their training.

They will play a crucial role in providing expertise and strategic leadership to our external stakeholders.

The ambition of the organisation is to ensure we create an environment that attracts, supports, develops and retains our workforce by creating an environment of lifelong learning. The post holder will bring a range of expertise in helping realise this ambition and will use innovation, research and evidence to guide our practices and modernise our processes.

This role will have dual accountability to the Director of Nursing and the Director of Culture and OD. The post holder will look to bring together the current function and what practices need to be modified to make this a reality. They will be someone who recognises the importance of understanding and supporting the whole employee lifecycle and be comfortable with engaging with a wide range of professional groups to ensure people’s needs are met and that the organisation is developing colleagues to ensure improved patient outcomes and career development are a priority.

Main duties of the job
  • Engaging and networking with external stakeholders ensuring parity, resource, and support for the mental health agenda.
  • Developing relationships with Universities in a mutually beneficial way to support the nursing strategy and workforce strategy.
  • Front facing Ambassador to Health Education England and ICB’s.
  • Provide strategic leadership by supporting the executive team in all areas pertaining to clinical training and education agenda for the Trust.
  • To support, reflect and implement the staff training and skills required from the Trust’s Model of Care (Clinical operating Model), working closely with the relevant Directors and members of the executive team and significant stakeholders.
  • With the Chief People Officer and Chief Nursing Officer, ensure that the Trust commissions appropriate levels of pre-and post-registration training to meet future service needs, and that clinical CPD investment links to organisational priorities and plans.
  • Manage the education and development budgets, being authorised signatory for specific areas, monitoring budgets against expenditure, and providing financial reporting as and when required.
  • Analyse and produce statistical information as required about education, training and development, including information required for board reports and executive team meetings.
