The Oral Health Promotion Advisor will be based at University Hospital of North Tees, and will travel across Teesside. The role is 30hrs (part time) working days can be discussed.
The post holder will plan, deliver and evaluate quality oral health education/intervention programmes to contribute to improving the oral health of people across Teesside.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will plan, deliver and evaluate quality oral health education/intervention programmes to contribute to the strategic direction of oral health promotion across Teesside as requested by OralHealth Promotion Coordinator in line with the current work plan.
The post holder will work across the district of Teesside covering North Tees, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Redcar and Cleveland localities working with multi agencies to design, develop, support and evaluate the delivery of oral health education/intervention programmes and teach others including children, adults, teachers, health and social care professionals etc on a regular basis

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
There is a requirement to work with various professionals to identify current practice, set standards and implement positive change in practice to promote oral health across North Tees, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland localities using appropriate change management/audit model.Such agencies may include Health Promotion, Healthy Schools, and Social Services etc.
The post holder will review and facilitate recommendations in a multi agency setting with regards to policies concerning matters relating to health improvement programmes e.g. supporting a school to implement various interventions to improve oral health.

Person specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria- A dental qualification e.g. Registered Dental Nurse with the National Certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ Oral Healthcare Dental Nursing Level 3 or equivalent or Diploma in Dental Hygiene, or Diploma in Dental Therapy or first degree is essential
- Certificate in Oral Health Education level 4 (accredited through NEBDN)
- City and Guilds teaching certificate 7307 or Level 4 Eg L4 Certificate in Education and Training
- The post holder will update knowledge in oral health promotion through continued professional development
- Knowledge of infection control procedures
- Level 5 Certificate in Education
- Knowledge of wider NHS initiatives
Experience
Essential criteria- 2 years dental experience
- Experience of / ability to deliver presentations or training sessions.
- The post holder will be able to work both independently using own initiative and as part of an effective team member
- The post holder will participate in and have an understanding of audit
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent organisation skills
- Computer literacy i.e. a good working knowledge of various Microsoft packages is desirable
- Prioritise workload in order to complete tasks assigned
- Able to exercise own initiative in developing oral health promotion projects assigned at appraisal
- Be able to drive independently cross site throughout the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes
- Competence in delivering presentations

New Starters – Probationary Period
For any new employees commencing employment with North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, you will be subject to satisfactory completion of a 6 month probationary period.
