An exciting opportunity is available for a Specialised Therapy Assistant working in a Paediatric Physiotherapy service. The post holder will be part of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Therapy Services providing high quality of rehabilitation to children and young adults.

To assist and work under the direction of the therapist in the implementation of the assessed management plan for child/young adult. To assist in carrying out duties assigned to that department including administration duties.

Candidate will be required to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, to deliver individual therapy programmes to children and young adults both at home and in their educational setting.

To undertake any other duties deemed reasonable and appropriate by the Clinical Team Lead/Operational Lead or Service Lead for Paediatric therapy services.

The post holder will be a caring responsible person, who can work well under instruction, as well on their own.

To deliver pre-set therapy programmes following assessment by a state registered physiotherapist.

To undertake basic assessment of each patient’s condition prior, during intervention or as a response of any treatment be observing any significant change or analysing variations and accurately reporting these to the primary therapist.

To have good communication skills, organisation and interpersonal skills and will be required to have a reasonable standard of literacy and numeracy.

Have the confidence and ability to work unsupervised in children/young adults own homes following prescribed programme of treatment or within educational settings. Have the confidence and ability to act as a mentor/trainer to staff in educational settings.

To participate as lead or co-facilitator in group treatments, as directed by qualified therapist.

Good time management skills.

To organise and prioritise delegated work tasks and activities, being flexible to the needs of the service as directed by the therapist.

Have basic knowledge of Paediatric clinical medical conditions and how they may present.

To manage own caseload as delegated by the Therapist working within the hospital and community.

To be flexible with regards to workload, changing duties and responsibilities.

To provide rehabilitation programmes to children and young adults both in their homes and in educational settings.

To use special skills to implement therapeutic procedures as directed by therapists which are within knowledge and experience. To modify programmes only when necessary within defined competencies and report back to the therapist.

To assist in increasing the functional independence children and young adults through a range of therapeutic interventions, including handling and positioning of people.

To participate in the training/mentoring of support staff and teachers in schools to support both individual and group therapies/strategies.

To deliver and fit and demonstrate to children and young adults equipment after initial assessment by therapist and show good understanding of it, and ensure safe use.

To be able to act with initiative and follow protocols if faced with an untoward incident whilst working out in the community/educational setting.

To report and communicate to the therapist and other agencies on any change/difficulties regarding patients therapeutic programme.

To liaise appropriately with other disciplines/agencies with regard to the rehabilitation plan.

To participate in personal and service development including CPD.

To be aware of and implement good customer relations and assist with administration tasks within the service area including data collection.

To maintain a clean therapeutic environment and monitor stock levels of equipment were appropriate.

To be familiar with referral agencies/procedures, Patients Charter and documentation used by therapists.

To demonstrate an awareness and comply with Health & Safety, Fire, CPR, COSHH and Manual Handling.

To comply and participate in audit/clinical governance and evidenced based practice.

To abide by Trust Policies and Procedures.

To undertake any other duties deemed reasonable and appropriate by the Clinical Team Lead or Service Lead for therapy services.

To liaise with all agencies, carers and professionals involved in the delivery of services to children and young adults.

To work as part of the extended multi-disciplinary team, with educational support staff and teachers.

To enhance and develop relationships with other Services associated with the Service.
