Interim Solicitor – Highways & Planning

Job Ref: Oxfordshire 5255121
Pay Rate: Up to £28.35 per hour PAYE depending on experience
Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 2-3 months

City: Oxford, Oxfordshire

The purpose of the role is to undertake a range of legal work in connection with the work of the team and to provide general legal advice to all client departments of Oxfordshire County Council.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist Legal Services in maintaining the provision of an effective and efficient Legal Service to the County Council.

Assist County Legal Services in maintaining the provision of an effective and efficient legal service to the County Council in compliance with the LEXCEL Office Procedures Manual formulated in accordance with the Law Society’s Practice Management Standards.

Undertake more complex proceedings with minimal supervision.
Undertake more complex advocacy work, if necessary.
Support junior legal colleagues in their work and role modelling the quality of legal work required.

Work autonomously and reliably on more complex or difficult projects and policies in the specialist areas.

Qualifications:

Qualified solicitor/Barrister with a current practising certificate.

Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Experience of Planning/Environment and Highways as required by role.
Experience working within a legal practice/in house legal department.
Experience of legal practice.
Excellent knowledge and understanding of relevant areas of law and practice; ability to research quickly in unknown areas of law, learn new areas of law and make a professional judgement and provide accurate and definitive advice.
Excellent knowledge of specialist legal area as set out in responsibilities.

Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite, Adobe Pro).
