This new post is a core role within the Commercial Analytics team at UHCW. We are part of the Trust’s finance department and we have responsibility for producing high-quality data and generating analytical reports in support of organisation-wide planning, income generation and costs analysis.

Notably, these outputs include the routine national submissions of highly detailed activity information which ultimately determine the funding the Trust receives for its work.

The Senior Information Systems Developer (SISD) applies their specialist skills and knowledge to ensure that our underlying database processes maintain high reliability and efficiency and continue to align with ever evolving requirements. Success in this role contributes a solid foundation towards the team’s aim to maintain a high quality and highly responsive service

The post holder is expected to continuously develop their technical skills as well as develop knowledge of the Trust’s activities, data models and national reporting requirements in support of their work

Main duties of the job

The Commercial Analytics Team is a team of specialist analysts and developers who produce the reports and underlying data that the Trust requires to understand its costs and to contract for its income.

As a team, we have a broad range of skills but we all share in common an enjoyment in finding creative solutions to the rich challenges that can be found working in a large, complex and ambitious organisation.
  • To maintain, adapt and improve the advanced SQL processes that underpin Commercial Analytics Reporting
  • To provide line management to the Inventory Management Officers
  • To provide technical support and training to other team members, and to promote good technical practices
  • To work with autonomy on data extraction and reporting projects in answer to new user requirements
  • To keep abreast of relevant standards, methodologies and technologies working in alignment with:
o current technologies
o information governance guidance
o NHS information Standards

o NHS methodologies applicable to cost collection and commissioning

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  1. Technical Maintenance and Development:
  • Keeping up to date on changes to national online guidance and on any notifications received from end user organisations that extend or alter existing reporting specifications and requirements
  • Routinely reviewing, extending and adapting existing data processes to maintain compliance with the evolving requirements from internal and external users of our data
  • Monitoring the performance of Commercial Analytics processes, identifying and responding to areas of deterioration as well as identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency and useability of our processes more generally
  • Liaising with clinical leads, subject matter experts and 3rd party software providers to develop new data pipelines feeding into Commercial Analytics models.
  • Detecting and Investigating process errors and liaising with appropriate internal contacts over data quality issues
  • Engaging with varied clinical and operational contacts at all levels to support the improvement of existing data streams
  • Delivering on data capture and analysis projects including as examples overseeing processes to support high-cost device reporting and operational delivery planning.
  • Supporting the Principal Commercial Analytics Developer in ensuring the integrity and security of Commercial Analytics data and processes
  1. Specialist Support:
  • Meeting with key individuals within the organisation and outside to resolve IT technical issues
  • Providing advice and support to Commercial Analytics and other Finance staff that build and maintain highly complex SQL queries
  • Liaison with the web development arm of the Commercial Analytics Team to meet their source data needs
  • Investigating and fixing sources or error and technical issues, progressing tickets with ICT support services where the nature of the nature of the issue requires
  1. Working within the Commercial Analytics Team
  • Acting as line manager for the Inventory Management Officers who track the receipt and usage of medical devices.
  • Providing training and advice to the technical users of our data, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to create efficient business logic for their reports and analyses
  • Collaborating closely with our analysts and specialists in our Costing and Income teams to ensure that our process outputs meet their needs
  • Engaging in and supporting team member objectives and learning
  • Deputizing for the Principal Commercial Analytics Developer where needed
