The role of a Pharmacy technicians pre-registration trainee (PTPT) aims to complement pharmacy technician in primary care and improve patient care quality by optimizing safe and cost-effective prescribing practices. This includes switching medications to approved protocols, enhancing repeat prescribing processes, promoting repeat dispensing, online ordering, minimizing clinical risk, and reducing wasted medicines.
The pre-registration pharmacy technician will also learn how to promote medicines optimization principles and assist the PCN in meeting national requirements and implementing NICE guidelines, under the supervision of a qualified pharmacy technician and/or pharmacist.
The PTPT will work through the level 3 Pharmacy Technician apprenticeships programme and complete all assignments and educational tasks to deadlines to satisfy the requirements for qualification and registration as a Pharmacy Technician. Clinical Responsibilities: Learn how to undertake patient-facing roles for effective medicines use by shadowing pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, and other members of the clinical team in General Practice.
Learn how to carry out medicines optimisation tasks like checking inhaler techniques, supporting medication reviews, and medicines reconciliation by shadowing relevant clinical staff or under the supervision of a qualified pharmacy technician and/or pharmacist.
Learn how to support medication reviews for new care home patients and synchronize medicines for patient transfers, under the supervision of a qualified pharmacy technician and/or pharmacist. Learn how to provide expertise to address public health and social care needs of patients by shadowing relevant clinical staff or under the supervision of a qualified pharmacy technician and/or pharmacist.
Learn how to manage shared care protocols by shadowing relevant clinical staff and liaise with Pharmacy Technicians and Clinical Pharmacists for complex patients. Technical and Administrative Responsibilities: Learn how to support the PCN team for efficient medicines optimization processes.
Learn how to implement efficient ordering and return processes to reduce medication wastage. Work towards understating how to provide training on the legal, safe, and secure handling of medicines. Learn how to promote Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) and online ordering via NHS App Learn how to develop relationships with other pharmacy professionals for integrated health and social care.
Shadow qualified pharmacy technicians to learn how to support the Clinical Pharmacist in delivering Structured Medication Reviews (SMR). Shadow prescription officers teams and help with processing prescription requests. Shadow Clinical Pharmacists/Pharmacy Technician team to learn how to support the implementation of national prescribing policies in various primary care settings.
Shadow Clinical Pharmacists/Pharmacy Technician team to support the PCN in QIPP agenda, QOF, and locally commissioned enhanced services. General Responsibilities: Promote equality and diversity. Observe principles of openness, transparency, and candor.
Acquire appropriate level of safeguarding knowledge and comply with related policies. Learn about infection prevention and control issues and how to report such incidents. Support the equality, diversity, and rights of patients, carers, and colleagues.
