Overall Job Purpose:
Responsibility to provide P&I claims handling service and advice to the Club’s cruise and ferry membership. The role is based within the Americas Syndicate with a dedicated team that looks after the Club’s passenger ship Members based in North America and Europe with ships trading worldwide.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- To handle assigned claims in accordance with company procedures, provide advice on claims related issues and identify the need for loss prevention activity.
- Handling a wide range of P&I issues with a substantial personal injury caseload, including complex and high value matters.
- Working with a high degree of independence, taking ownership and responsibility for your caseload, but seeking advice and supportive guidance from your Claims Manager or Claims Directors as appropriate.
- To promote the relationship between the Club and existing Members for which the claims team is responsible.
- To ensure that all electronic correspondence, whether received or sent, relating to claim files assigned to the particular individual is promptly and correctly filed in accordance with the agreed working practices and to maintain and keep updated such e-files.
- To delegate appropriate work and assist in the development of the capabilities of Claims Executives and Assistants to maximise their potential.
- To contribute to the continuous development of company procedures and systems.
- To produce relevant articles for inclusion in Club publications.
- To support the underwriting objectives for the Syndicate.
- To attend appropriate training and to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
- To carry out any other duties that are within the scope of personal skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
- To perform any other ad hoc duties as required.
Person Specification:
- Previous experience handling personal injury cases, including passengers and crew, from either another P&I club, insurer, law firm, ship owner, or ship agent.
- Degree educated, preferably with an LLB or LLM in Maritime Law.
- Excellent communication skills, including negotiating, presenting, and reporting (both written and verbal).
- Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Highly organised, motivated, and enthusiastic, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to deliver high-quality work within agreed timeframes and prioritise individual workload.
- Proactive and able to use own initiative.
- Ability to work within a team.
