Applications are invited for Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to join the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme at the University of Hertfordshire (UH). We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology to contribute specialist knowledge relevant to selection, clinical, academic and research areas that complement the existing provision within the DClinPsy Team.

Although the Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology will work across all aspects of the programme, making the role very varied, this post will be expected to have a primary affiliation with either the selection or clinical strands of the programme, according to interests, skills and programme needs.

The programme is based in the Department of Psychology, Sport and Geography on the College Lane Campus at the University of Hertfordshire. The Department is one of the foremost amongst the new universities in teaching and research. The successful applicant will work as part of a friendly, ambitious and enterprising Team who deliver excellent training and continue to develop the programme in innovative and creative ways.

Main duties and responsibilities

The role will include maintaining the highest ethical and safe practice standards of BPS and HCPC as well as contributing to the monitoring and evaluation of trainees on clinical placements. It will also include contribution to the organisation and delivery of the academic curriculum, including module organising, teaching, facilitation of problem-based learning and small group work and the evaluation of DClinPsy trainees' coursework.
There will be the opportunity to observe trainee clinical practice and provide feedback and provide clinical supervision both in groups and individually to DClinPsy trainees. You will take a lead on the admissions and selection of trainee clinical psychologists or take a key role in the scoping and allocation of trainees to placements within the region, in line with University and external stakeholder requirements.

The post assumes that the appointee will undertake relevant CPD in order to maintain their accreditations and professional registration.

Skills and experience required

You will have experience of providing supervision and experience of teaching and training, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for academic settings. Demonstrable competencies normally acquired through working as a qualified clinical psychologist and highly specialised knowledge of the theory and practice of psychological therapies is essential for this role.

You will have the ability to plan and manage own activities effectively, the ability to deal with sensitive material with strict confidentiality, in compliance with data protection legislation such as GDPR and good oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications required

In addition to your undergraduate qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent and post-graduate level training in clinical or counselling psychology, or expected completion within the next twelve months, you will be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist, or expected registration at the point of qualification and be eligible for BPS Chartered status at the point of qualification.

Please view the job description and person specification for a full list of the duties and essential criteria. Please attach a personal statement showing clearly how your skills and experience match the Person Specification.

An appointment to this role may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.

Please note that post holders will be subject to a probationary period and HCPC registration within twelve months of appointment is a requirement of this probation.

The University offers every individual the opportunity to succeed. We want our staff to represent multi-faceted life experiences, varied cultural heritage and to encourage cognitive diversity. We recognise that the field is not ‘level’ and want to actively address barriers to progression.
Markers of success to date include no gender pay gap within the School where this post sits and holding an Athena Swan Bronze Award. We also challenge stereotypes and partner with networks both within and outside of the University to enhance inclusion in the workplace.
We wholeheartedly encourage applications from BAME and LGTBQ candidates, who are currently under-represented within the School. We offer a range of employee benefits including generous annual leave, flexible location opportunities within the UK, discounted Sports Village memberships, personal and professional development and family-friendly policies.
