Research Associate in Sustainability Assessment for the Maritime Sector - Sheffield

We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to join our Sustainability Assessment team in the
Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures and take a lead researcher role in UK-MaRes, the UK National Clean Maritime
Research Hub (UK-MaRES). Your role will be to evaluate the sustainability of fuel switching for marine transport, includingboth fuel use on the ship (e.g. ammonia, hydrogen) as well as production of the fuel and storage at the port. This will include
process modelling, life cycle assessment and technoeconomic analysis.
UK-MaRes aims to accelerate the decarbonisation and elimination of air pollution from maritime activity in ports and at sea.
As well as environmental impacts, the Hub also focuses on the potential economic and social benefits of transitioning to a
clean maritime future. The Hub brings together over 80 university, industrial, civic and international organisations as project
partners, including shipping companies, ports, equipment and service providers, fuel producers and civic bodies.
You will work with a national team of researchers to develop fuel switching scenarios and use your process knowledge tomodel the scenarios and evaluate their environmental and economic impacts.
You will have strong analytical and modelling skills with experience of working in interdisciplinary teams.
