Job overview

We are looking for someone to join our Gynae and Urology Team as a Theatre Support Worker.

Our department is fast paced and dynamic with no 2 days the same. Once you have completed your 4 week Healthcare Support Worker Academy you will complete extensive training in department across a supernumerary period with support from our 2 in house clinical educators.

You will be supported to complete a theatres skills book to be able to give our patients the best care possible.

Our shift pattern is Mon to Fri 8-6 occasionally there is an 8-8.

You must be able to commit to attending our 4 week, full time Academy when you start working for our Trust

Main duties of the job

As a Theatre Support Worker within our team, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Assist in the collection and preparation of patient before surgery. You will be the patient advocate for their time in theatre, so you need to be thorough and patient.
  • Apply and understand monitoring of patients before surgery.
  • Act as a theatre runner to help with the set up of sterile equipment and maintaining this.
  • Maintain a safe environment.
  • Follow cleaning protocol to maintain a clean and safe environment for our patients.
  • Set up and maintain theatre equipment.
  • Stock up and maintain stock levels with theatre.
  • Handle tissue samples and document them correctly.
  • Handle sensitive information.

  • Understanding of patient-centered care and the role of the THCSW

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Literacy and numeracy skills to Level 1 (GCSE Grade 2-3, D-F or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills, able to use applications such as email on a computer or smart device (e.g., tablet).
  • Willing to undertake further training
  • Ability to prioritise tasks.
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of the Skills for Health Care Certificate.
  • Level 2/3 health care related qualification e.g., BTEC, NVQ, T-Level, Apprenticeship
  • Experience in a health or social care setting.
  • Ability to communicate health-related information

DBS Checks

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment.

The charges are currently £27.38 for a standard check and £55.38 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for.
