Job overview

NHS Devon is looking for a motivated and creative communications and engagement specialist to join our busy, friendly team. If you are creative, can manage multiple priorities, and love connecting with people to inspire action, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

You will use your skills to support people online with great advice and written information, meet people in person at events across the county and capture compelling stories through the use of video and photography, clear and concise writing, and eye-catching design.

You don’t need to have experience of working in the NHS, but you will need to be able to demonstrate your commitment to understanding the health and wellbeing challenges faced by local people, and how communications and public engagement can help tackle these challenges.

You will provide support to the communications and engagement team on digital projects, event management and engagement across a range of channels using mixed formats, including written text, images, videos and audio.

You will bring well-developed communications and engagement skills to facilitate efficient and effective communications, contributing to best-practice engagement activity, removing barriers and successfully engaging with internal and external stakeholder groups.

So, if you share our passion for people and want to make a positive change to their health and health services then we want to hear from you.

Main duties of the job
  • Website content management including editing and developing the sites and working with external website developers.
  • Support and develop marketing and campaign materials.
  • Manage NHS Devon's social media accounts, including creating, scheduling and monitoring social media posts.
  • Produce eye-catching and engaging communications materials including regular video content, graphic design and website content.
  • Produce written communications such as briefings, press releases, media enquiries, MP enquiries and staff communications.
  • Support and manage events and meetings with staff and stakeholders.
  • Support, write and implement communications plans.
  • Support the organisation to build and maintain relationships with staff and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and analyse the effectiveness of communication strategies, campaigns and activities to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Support the engagement function by arranging and minuting system and stakeholder meetings.
  • Produce materials to support engagement activities. These include slide decks for focus groups, surveys, promotional materials and supporting content for social media campaigns.
  • Lead on updating the engagement audit so any outputs from engagement are logged in one central place.
  • Support engagement function with development and implementation of new and updated policies and strategies.
  • Keep up to date with national guidance and best practice principles relating to engagement and significant service change.

Working for our organisation

NHS Devon Integrated Care System

As an Integrated Care System (ICS), we recognise now more than ever that we can only provide the care that people really need by working together. Together for Devon therefore represents a partnership where health and care services work together with local communities to improve peoples health, wellbeing and care.

It aims to transform health and care services so they are clinically, socially and financially sustainable.

Our vision is simple: equal chances for everyone in Devon to lead long, happy and healthy lives. To achieve this, we have set out six ambitions for the next five years that will help us transform services including: Effective and efficient care, embedding the Integrated Care Model, the Devon deal (a citizen-led approach to health and care), Children and young people, Digital Devon and ensuring Equality.

About NHS Devon

As part of the Devon ICS, NHS Devon Integrated Care Board is responsible for the majority of county's NHS budget, and develops a plan to improve peoples health, deliver high-quality care and better value for money.
