Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) oversees public transport in Greater Manchester, delivering and improving transport services, facilities and information to make travel easier for everyone. This is a busy and exciting time for us: under the devolution agreement, and with Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse, transport will play a vital role in supporting growth and prosperity in the UK’s largest regional economy outside London.
Our works spans a wide range of programmes across all modes of transport and TfGM’s Modelling and Appraisal team is becoming involved in new activities, so we’re looking to adapt and evolve our forecasting skills to meet the demands arising from the GM Bee Network ambitions.The team you will join has an integral role in assembling good quality evidence to support the decision making process at TfGM.
Your role
As Senior or Principal Transport Planner in the Forecasting team within Modelling and Analysis you’ll work to gain insight and knowledge from large datasets from a wide range of information sources and use transport modelling systems to create compelling evidence that helps shape the future of how people will travel in Greater Manchester.You will be required to be flexible in your work and to have an ability to be proactive when required. Working with colleagues in the team, you will use many of the forecasting tools that are commonly used across the industry and will work closely with internal partners throughout TfGM.
This is hybrid role where you will be expected to work in the office 2 days per week.

The role is split across two grades: at the senior level, you will use your experience in transport planning to use the tools at your disposal, including transport models, to create an evidence base for better decision making.At the principal level, you will proactively demonstrate your experience of transport forecasting to lead projects that improve and expand this evidence base, while working with colleagues in transport and economic appraisal.

- This is a permanent "Career Grade" position - Appointment will be made to either the Senior Transport Planner or the Principal Transport Planner grade dependent on your skills and experience. The salary will be in the range £40,650 - £51,473.
