Hello, my name is Nancy, and I am the Service Development Lead for Acute & Emergency Medicine at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT). The Care Group is led by our General Manager, Rachael Pearce, along with Dr Ray Sinclair, Dr Toby Slade and Dr Laura Wesson as joint Clinical Directors and Sarah Lear, Head of Nursing.

This is an exciting time for the care group and our ambitious strategy will require enthusiastic, determined and highly professional individuals that enjoy using quality improvement methodologies to transform services.

Specialties within the Care Group include, Emergency Medicine and Major Trauma, Acute Medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory, Care of the Elderly, Stroke and Neurology.

Full time - 37.5 hours per week (Mon - Fri will need to cover Senior Manager on call during week / weekends)

Reporting to the Care Group General Manager, the Service Manager is expected to support the Clinical Lead and Clinical Matron to effectively deliver the integrated clinical, operation and financial performance of the Specialty.

This role is responsible for ensuring national and local access targets are achieved, along with ensuring all aspects of people, performance and financial objectives are delivered as per the Specialty business plan. The Service Manager will provide strong leadership at a Specialty level, ensuring that there are appropriate systems and processes in place to deliver objectives and drive forward the service to improve the operational effectiveness of the Specialty.

To enable them to execute this responsibility the post holder is expected to provide proactive and visible leadership. Leadership will span four key areas; service leadership, people and personal leadership, quality leadership and collaborative leadership.

All senior leaders are expected to work as part of a cohesive team and, when necessary, to take lead responsibility for corporate issues outside their immediate sphere of responsibility in order to achieve the corporate objectives of the Trust.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is the main provider of acute and specialist care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We serve a population of around 500,000 people - a figure that can increase significantly with

visitors during the busiest times of the year. We employ approximately 6,700 staff and have a budget of approximately £580 million.

We are a teaching hospital in partnership with the University of Exeter Medical School, University of Plymouth School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Peninsula Dental School.
