Payroll Consultant - Guildford

The Role:

The Payroll Consultant will lead a variety of different workstreams, analysing existing payroll practices, working on payroll improvement workstreams, ensure compliance and reviewing iTrent system configuration/process challenges and prioritising solutions.
The role will seek to improve and optimise current payroll processes incorporating good practice and implementing findings of a Payroll Review, improve understanding and capability within the existing team and ensure that iTrent is utilised to its full capacity.
The Payroll Consultant will oversee payroll and work in partnership with the existing Payroll team to create and maintain a robust control framework within the iTrent payroll platform, ensuring that any process or activity is tested for accuracy, safety and compliance and financial and team member pay impact is understood, managed and communicated.
They will also be responsible for developing clear accountability of processes within the function and the payroll RACI and ways of working with IT, HR and Operations, ensuring appropriate governance, documentation, training and support across the department.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight of the payroll process, ensuring team members are paid accurately, on time and aligned to relevant taxation, benefits and other relevant calculations.
- Providing ongoing support to the payroll team, addressing any technical or operational gaps and challenges identified during payroll processing.
- Preparing regular reports on payroll processing performance and system functionality.
- Defining and clarifying roles and responsibilities, ensuring effective ownership and accountability for issue resolution.
- Creating and implementing standardised process and procedure, driving a standard way of working across the payroll function.
- Carrying out root cause analysis across a variety of process, people and iTrent system challenges, identifying and implementing solutions to
- prevent reoccurrence.
- Leading a variety of improvement workstreams and project groups, prioritising and resolving key challenges and issues.
- Conducting regular tests and audits to ensure effectiveness and suitability of any solution, aligned to payroll regulations and organisational policy.
- Ensuring the organisation remains compliant across current regulations, legislation and policy, through regular review.
- Developing comprehensive documentation for system processes, workflows and training materials.
- Working closely with the team to ensure effective use of the iTrent payroll system, delivering tailored training sessions on functionality and capability.
- Supporting iTrent system testing for upgrades and enhancements, creating an environment of continual improvement.

Essential Requirements:
- Proven operational experience running payroll teams, with a strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processes, including tax, benefits (including pensions) and compliance. With experience of complex, large multi-site 24/7 businesses and related payroll elements. Health or social care experience advantageous.
- Significant hands-on experience in the implementation, configuration operation and management of an iTrent Payroll & HR system.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of UK payroll regulations, tax and requirements.
- Experience of leading payroll audits and payroll improvement plans
- Knowledge of working with other HR or broader ERP systems, inc work force management systems.
- Highly knowledgeable and experienced in payroll responsibilities working with 3rd party providers including pensions suppliers and regulator, benefits providers (inc. vehicles), financial wellbeing and pay streaming.
- Experience managing or contributing to a system implementation or improvement project, with an understanding of timelines, deliverables and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of diagnosing and resolving system issues.
- Experience in training and developing payroll teams to improve system utilisation and overall team performance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex system functionality in a clear and understandable manner.
