Senior Mechanical Designer

The Opportunity
A leading engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to support major design and construction projects in the pharmaceutical sector. You'll play a key role in converting 3D models into detailed design deliverables, collaborating with multi-discipline teams to ensure accurate, coordinated output for installation and fabrication.This is a hybrid position offering a mix of office and site-based work on a permanent basis.

This role would suit candidates working as a Mechanical Piping Designer, Mechanical CAD Technician, Plant Layout Designer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Piping Draughtsperson, 3D Modeller, Process Plant Designer, CAD Engineer, Piping Layout Engineer, or Mechanical Engineering Technician.
Your duties and responsibilities will be- Producing mechanical design drawings from 3D models including piping layouts, general arrangements, and plot plans
- Supporting site-based laser scanning, dimensional verification and surveys
- Preparing essential project schedules such as line lists, valve registers and tie-in point documentation
- Liaising with installation teams and attending site when required to resolve design-related queries
- Working across departments to ensure that all mechanical deliverables are fully coordinated with other disciplines
- Using design software such as AutoCAD and CADWorx/Plant3D to develop models and drawings
- Ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, including those related to pressure systems and fabrication
- Participating in project progress reviews and reporting on drawing completion and hours spent
- Maintaining consistent document control and revision tracking throughout the project lifecycle
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the design function
- HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical design and plant layout, ideally within pharmaceutical environments
- Strong understanding of piping systems, specifications and design limitations
- Familiarity with laser scanning, pressure vessel standards and shop fabrication requirements
- Proficient in AutoCAD and either CADWorx or Plant3D, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
