Job overview
The post requires the Level 4 Certificate in Healthcare OR has previously held NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.- The post-holder will be responsible for the delivery of a high standard of person centred, safe, individualised, efficient, cost effective care under the delegated authority of a registered nurse. Delegation is defined as the transfer, to a competent individual, of the authority to perform a specific task in a specified situation (NMC 2019).
- The post-holder will communicate effectively at all times and in conjunction with other team members, contribute to and maintain the team philosophy. The post-holder will practice in accordance with Health Board standards and statutory requirements and operate within the boundaries of the role and assessed competencies.
- The post-holder will work with the line manager to develop the role as required within the boundaries of the Knowledge & Skills Framework (KSF) post outline and agreed skills and competencies.
- The post holder must, with the support of the line manager, identify areas where further training is required and attend in-service training sessions to ensure competency and maintain professional development.
Main duties of the job
Merlin Ward is a busy surgical ward specialising in ENT, including the managing of complex associated conditions, providing safe, high quality evidence based care.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria- Level 4 vocational qualification in a relevant health care associated subject / Certificate in Higher Education Health Care Support Worker
- GCSE Maths and English Grade C or above or equivalent level 2 or above essential skills qualifications.
- Evidence of continuing personal development relevant to the role in health care
- Able to demonstrate understanding of the HCSW Code of Conduct, All Wales Delegation guidelines and all Wales Band 4 Assistant Practitioner Governance Framework.
- Clinical knowledge which is relevant to the role.
- Demonstrates understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
- Demonstrates an understanding of the legislation related to Safeguarding e.g. adults/children, The Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberties Safeguards to keep adults within their care safe
- Local knowledge of statutory and voluntary services
- Teaching or assessment qualification
Experience
Essential criteria- Significant and recent experience of providing relevant clinical care
- Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to manage and diffuse challenging or threatening situations
- Experienced in undertaking a range of clinical skills relevant to the post as per role scope of practice and the national governance framework e.g. Catheter care - including removal
- Experienced in undertaking a range of clinical skills relevant to the post as per role scope of practice and the national governance framework e.g. Monitor and record vital observation and interpret results
- Experienced in undertaking a range of clinical skills relevant to the post as per role scope of practice and the national governance framework e.g. Reviewing risk assessments
